Porsche Wall Charger Connect
$1,586.00 $1,269.00excl. Tax
$1,269.00 instead of $1,586.00 excluding Tax
Sold by Porsche Cars North America, Inc.
An easy charging solution for your home, with a charging power up to 19.2 kW(AC)*.

I have a 2020Turbo which had to have the wall charger amp rate reduced so it now takes 12 hours to fully charge without disconnecting.
Am I to believe that rather then fix/replace the original paid for charger they want to sell me a $1,269 replacement.
What am I missing? This can't be the way Porsche thinks its fixing their problem. Really dissappointed. Comments?

Does this offer any different / better charging than the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect that came with my 2000 Taycan Turbo?

This is a different unit that is hardwired and charges up to 19.2kW. It’s been out for a while (> a year). It’s not related to the PMCC issues.

The mobile chargers were reduced. Not the wall charger.

Up to 19.2kW, but you have the have the supply capacity for it and the car has to be able to accept it. 19.2kW AC charging is an option for the cars (not available in the 2000 model year 😉).
Standard AC charge rate maxes out at 11kW.

This is bull crap! They cut our power in half then they throw this in our face to buy a unit that can charge from 0 to 100% in 5 hours BUT......they want us to pay $1,269.00 more.
They should be giving us this unit to replace the crap we already paid for when we purchased our car. I can't stand corporate greed!

Ah thanks for the clear explanation @Jhenson29! So with the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect cable that came with my 2000 Taycan Turbo and a NEMA 14-50 plug in my garage, what kW rate am I charging at home?

9.6kW max per specs. Which is half of the 19.2kW rate.

Just remember, the car needs to be able to handle the rate also.

At 100%, 9.6kW (mid to high 8's at the vehicle side.)
At 50%, the new default, half that.

Gotcha. What max kW charging rate was the 2000 Turbo able to handle? (since the 19.2kW option wasn't available yet)

All Taycans have a standard max rate of 11kW (specs state 9.6, but users have observed the actual to be 11).

2021 introduced the 19.2kW on-board AC charger as an option. It’s also available as a retrofit now, but it’s expensive. @daveo4EV had a thread & post about it:

For What it's worth - 19.2 kW Retrofit cost in US

19.2 kW charger will see very little use in North American unless you spring for an expensive 240V 100 amp circuit for your home charging situation
