This shows a very interesting trial in Norway. Only 50 kW with 400 volt but is Said to be upto 75 kW with 800 volt systems. Planned for taxis and buses etc. Lets see how it develops. Would be great at shopping malls etc.

Media is sure making a lot of noise about this, except that such a cable is only a small part required to enable full charge in 3 minutes. The bigger challenge is to build a battery which can take such charge rate, and even the cabling inside the car. Perhaps EV big rigs might have use for it, but they will not be charging as fast as refueling either because of this, they have much larger batteries. This cable enables 3 minute full fill no more than a retractable steering wheel enables fully autonomous cars. It's cool, but only a small piece of the puzzle.

Of course - the challenge is end to end and most people are fully aware of this but more discussion here and elsewhere has focused on specific battery tech to this point imo than on other areas for significant gains in efficiency such as highlighted by this type of engineering.

I loved both the articles and the video. No question that the future is looking brighter for EVs.

Still, a massive infrastructure investment will be required before this is everywhere. It would be great if some corporate groups (e.g., Starbucks) would step up to providing charging at all of their coffee shops.
