I saw this interesting post on reddit. Seems like J1.2 is getting a new and improved OTA and many other changes in the backend of PCM. It seems that OTA will be carried out over your personal phone internet connections, via the Porsche app; thus ensuring more stable connection than via the spotty in-car connection. I wonder if it will work only when parked, or how exactly will this work.
CarPlay Navigation
Battery metrics
Motor power graph (it's currently at 0)
Tyres
Dynamics
Map charging station filter
A long list of charging networks
Charge planner options
Online Software Updates
I just had a software update installed at the Porsche Center for my MY2025 Taycan. The job was labelled WRV3 Update to Software network, which I couldn't find any information about online. All-in-all, it took about half a day to complete.
As usual, they couldn't provide a meaningful change log, but after playing around with it for a while I've noted a few new interesting changes. I was however provided an entirely new manual that I haven't had time to read through yet. Overall, it seems like they've done quite a bit of rewrite behind the hood.
I'm sorry for the Swedish interface; I hope the message comes across anyway.
CarPlay navigation in dash
CarPlay navigation instructions finally show up in the dash and HUD. It does not however show the route on the map in the dash, but it does show the turn by turn instructions in the right tube (as well as time of arrival among other things).
Performance app
There's a new performance app that shows real-time information about car like motor power, battery metrics and handling. The white line at the bottom of the motor power photo below is normally a graph while driving.
Emergency number
When I connected my phone, I was prompted to confirm my (prefilled) phone number as an emergency number. I'm not entirely certain of what this is used for exactly.
Improved charging planner
There are a number of new options in the charging planner and the map overall. First of all, it's now possible to filter charging stations on the map based on available power output, charging network and whether they are open 24/7. Essentially it's finally possible to remove all those pesky 50 kW chargers and only show actually usable chargers on the map.
For the charging planner, there are a few new options:
- Home charging available (lowers minimum battery SoC at arrival when navigating home)
- Minimum acceptable charging station power (100 kW, 150 kW, 250 kW).
- Prioritise / avoid individual chargers on route.
- Minimum speed limit for Range mode (100 kph, 110 kph, 120 kph, e.t.c). Range mode will never limit speed below this setting.
Over the air updates
Yeah, we've heard it before, but here we go again. There is now a new tab in the phone app called Online Software Updates that looks like this:
I guess we'll see what this actually means in practice, but at least it seems like the idea of real OTA updates isn't dead yet.
Note that this appears to be seperate from the typical software updates for navigation data and individual apps that are occasionally installed automatically. Those are downloaded from the car's built in cellular connection, while this requires an external WiFi connection. WiFi connectivity was previously introduced with the J1.2 primarily to enable video streaming, but it seems like it will also be used for software updates.
When I got the car back, it immediately installed two minor updates (Finder and something else), so those appear to still be handled over cellular.
Reduced EU speed warning
All cars sold in the EU must now include an audible speed warning when going above the speed limit. Previously, the sound was... EXTREMELY annoying to put it mildly. After the update, this has however improved significantly. It's much quieter and softer. Instead of beeping indefinitely while going above the speed limit, it seems like it now just pings at you twice and then stops. I however need to test this further to really say exactly how it works now.
Below are the current software versions after the update.

Other changes
I've also noticed a number of smaller bug fixes all around. E.g. when changing song, the album art updates much quicker than before.
