My car was in for warranty work and got this update, here are the new performance menus in English. Much of it is meh but the real time consumption and real time overboost power is interesting. The real time consumption will more easily demonstrate how different motorway cruise speeds, headwinds, gradients, temperature etc impact efficiency and the overboost reading will show how SoC impacts max power availability.

I also have a YouTube app now but cannot get it to work.
Some (most) of that data is available on J1.1 from the Porsche Track Precision app. With is a CarPlay app that connects into the CANBUS data via Wifi. Its not exactly the same – but pretty close if you are really passionate about this data today.

I can agree that charging settings features in this update are relevant for an electric Porsche, but come on, how sad are things getting if all that is left to lure consumers out of the abysses of driving boredom is pixel counts, SoC MIPS, BLE specs and gimmicks ?
Does a Porsche need arcade driving games and fart noises too now ?

Basing expectations on smartphones and - inevitably - Tesla questions the very foundation of such an expensive purchase, and the promise of a car, in particular a premium performance car. If all that is left is range, charging rates, and screen resolution, the Porsche business model is dead.

It does not preclude Porsche from being held to high standards of functionality, but i roll my eyes when these considerations seem to take precedence over anything else. All of this remains tertiary to the essence of a Porsche: performance, precision, dynamics, rigor and integrity in the driver's interfaces, personalization.

If these do not resonate, it is advisable to buy a BYD Seal and a nice foldable smartphone instead.

You’re conveniently ignoring the fact that other EVs at 1/3 of the price offer both driving dynamics, precision, performance, etc etc AND good software with a faster response time than a Samsung fridge

shockingly, people driving a non-track car expect the “quality of life” features of the car to be also great; and shockingly most people didn’t buy the taycan to take it to the nurburing

Really ? I'd love to know which do, in your book ? I have driven several/many, and other than excessive acceleration up to 100kph, there is not much in the way of handling integrity. Mashmallow (or wooden sled in the case of Tesla) on wheels. So the conversation shifts entirely to digital aspects and the essence of a car slowly dissolves in consumer unawareness.

This does not excuse Porsche's shortcomings in offering robust SW features, but innovation like ActiveRide is so infinitely more relevant to what a Porsche is.

Is it so hard to agree on:
  • We bought a PORSCHE based on driving performance and / or lifestyle
  • We all need to charge this marvelous driving machine sometimes
  • If we drive outside of our normal/daily routes, we need navigation
  • PCM navigation has room to improve
  • J1 II has an update that makes navigation better
  • Nobody here will pay 100k++ $ to fix navigation bugs / carplay
Let‘s wait and see if J1 I cars will get some love and all here should be happy.

On the intersection of navigation and driving performance, you all should really give the Porsche ROADS app a new try. They fixed navigation robustness from 10%->98% in August.
So they are willing to improve things, I guess.. :)

that’s interesting. Previously the app was so bad that we ended up transcribing routes into a different app or onto paper. One wrong turn and it got messed up. I will try the new version.

The other issue with the app was that the database contained a confused and untidy mess of public submissions (“drive to Fred’s house”) crowding out the properly curated routes (“Porsche Experience backroads in the Black Forest”). There were tons of totally useless routes in there. Has this improved?

At least Porsche should offer paid updates, because Taycan doesn't support OTA updates its an additional cost to Porsche, this may be a reason not to do it.

It is not about the emphasis on hard- or software.
Indeed I want to drive a Porsche because of its hardware.

Just for the fact, that the automobile-world is shifting, Porsche should not miss the opportunity to still treat customers best possible on all aspects.

Youtube works on mine. You need to connect to a WiFi hot spot.... on your phone or WiFi in your garage
If you are connected to Carply or Android, it should also work automatically?

It appears not to work just connected to Car Play or Android Auto. I had to switch on the hotspot on my phone and pair the car with the phones hot spot before YouTube would work. Instructions in the manual sa the same.

Yep have my install date on 01/03. I’m in the US. Wish it was just OTA. No communication from Porsche about this, found out through the Reddit post and put in a call to my dealer who said it was available for my car.
