Anyone have rumors or news on software update roadmap for JII or beyond?

Porsche makes so many announcements and changes on software it is hard to see any real plan.

Nothing special I am looking for mostly just wondering if there are areas of focus or updates coming,

Any rumors would be even more meaningless than the announcements which as you just stated, are not very useful as a lot of them change or never materialize.

New fancy shamcy fully integrated car play is supposed to come to porsche and aston martin first...

That has been stated in 2020 i think. All we got so far is hvac control in car play. Screen behind wheel on taycan j1 and J1.2 is not PCM configurable; seems to be entierly it's own thing, so no car play there. The macan EV will probably be the first one to get that.

Looks like the Macan EV has a completely different PCM UI, and probably that's the Android Automotive (not Android Auto) based one that Polestar uses.

I suspect it will be used for the new 911 (994), new Taycan (2027+) and the Cayenne EV.

Chances of us getting any reasonable update on the J1 and even J1.2 are probably not very likely because Porsche sucks at software and European manufacturers nickle and dime their customers on anything software related (while also being poorly executed).

At this point, new American automotive companies have an edge by providing excellent software (Tesla, Rivian) and I think they're finally discovering their niche. Software is really important to me so my next car may be a Rivian and for a fun weekend car I'll probably get an AMG GT. Mercedes is the only legacy automaker that has an actual R&D team in the Bay Area who know what they're doing.

The only thing I have been able to "confirm" in any matter from anyone working at Porsche is that there are NO plans to bring ANY features from the gen2 pcm to gen 1 pcm. Typical Porsche.

Figured. Bummer the face lift didn’t get something in this space.

This looks even more like 90ies software than the current Taycan PCM which is already visually quite underwhelming. That blue gradient is utterly ugly. A pity that Porsche hasn’t understood that customers expect visually appealing and snappy software and to receive software updates over time which also add new features.

I think you're confusing cars with smart-phones.
Or with usa car brands: lucid, tesla, rivian
Or with chinese car brands: BYD, NIO, and more

Just because germans can't do software, doesn't mean peoples expectations are wrong :). Porsche and EU car markers will have to adapt in the coming years, or die :D

The PPE platform (Macan) has different PCM hardware compared to J1 (Taycan) and J1 II (Taycan Facelift).

I was hoping that the facelift PCM software will be brought to the J1 cars, but my hopes are slowly vanishing.

Note: The Facelift ist not running on the J1.2 platform but J1 II (or J1A), J1.2 will be the successor of the current Facelift.

The hope is still not 0. It took 1 year for porsche to release the 2021 update to the 2020 models; it's why people called it the 2022 update, despite the software existing in 2021 models for 1 year.

It might still get updated. Especially since it's 99% same hardware. It would make it easier for porsche to maintain the software also, less branches. Because they will still have to provide security, map updates and small updates and carplay updates to the taycan j1 anyway.

I would give it more time.

Disagree. But many people’s expectations are of course driven by smart phones that are much more advanced with regards to UI and upgradability. And as chin has pointed out, other car makers have understood it already.

This. It will come, but will take time. I have no sources, but as software developer and product owner it is the only logical thing to do. They have enough on their plate with recalls etc. Bigger updates like these will be installed at dealers, so they need to plan this right to not stress dealers too much with all the recalls happening.

Maybe, but don't hold your breath. As with many high-tech gadgets the manufacturers would much rather you buy the new one - so giving old models new features is bad for business, even if technically it's easy to do.

But this car is not a gadget. Us talking about the software is bad marketing for Porsche and more expensive than updating our cars.

But to be honest. The new UI is nice and I suffer a bit from FOMO. So an update is more than welcome, but we don't miss anything. The uPdate 2 years ago was a massive overhaul - and we also got that one for free, so your theory is already proven wrong. The update we hope will come will be a small one. Some new options for the dashboard screen, improved battery controls (set minimum level etc) and a new air quality screen.
