Night View Assist detects people and animals in sufficient darkness and at ambient temperatures below 28 °C in a driving speed range up to 250 km/h (156 mph).
This would give a strong indication that the detecting happens under this criteria, which is different from having the thermal image show on the display.
I’ve ordered it myself and live near a large amount of deer (http://phoenixpark.ie/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Phoenix-Park-Deer-Frequently-Asked-Questions.pdf) so look forward to testing the above out in both day and night.
