Only getting around 7kw of charging. I have it connected to a 50amp 240 circuit, charger reads 40.2amps. Shouldn’t this be closer to 9.6kw?

Is the charger set for 40A operation? How hot is it in your garage?
Yes it is set for 40amps and showing 40.2 on the pmcc, it is 20C in our loading bay of 4000 sq ft where it is charging in my shop

Have you tried setting it to 50A? If 40A is the upper bound, it may be choosing to run at the max continuous load which would be 32A (which is still a bit higher than 6.95 kW).

can you send us a picture of your porsche charger?

the other day I noticed my Taycan charging at 32 amps even though it was set for 40 amps - later in the charging session the vehicle was charging at 40 amps again - the car will vary the charge rate to suit it’s own purposes - it may choose to manage the charge session for various reasons and not always charge at the full rate.

Check the actual voltage going into the charging station. It probably isn’t 240. It might be 210 or so.

Yes I am assuming it’s coming from a 208v 3 phase panel.

208 volts * 40 amps = 8.3 kW (not 9.6) - so 7 kW charge rate reported in the vehicle would be about right.

208 * 40 = 8,320 watt or 8.32 kW

You're only going to get 9.6kW from a 240V circuit. You are using two hots from a 3 phase system to get 208V, where 240V is coming from a single phase system.

Yup makes perfect sense! Plugging in at home will be quicker, and maybe going with another charger here at my shop

48 amp ClipperCreek EVSE would charge at

48 * 208 = 9,900 watts

60 amp breaker - you want the HCS-60 model.

should net out to 8.2 - 8.7 kW in the car.
