A basic poll to determine how much of a factor the environment was when purchasing a Taycan...

We had already determined to buy an EV, the Taycan was simply the most practical choice.

It was mainly so I didn't have to stop at gas stations between homes.
I installed solar at one end, the other end is nuclear.
So worse when you consider waste disposal impact.

Needed more space than my cayman. Didn’t fancy a panamera. Never wanted an suv. Loved the mission e and the tech.

Decided on an EV after discovering to my amazement how much better electric motors are than piston engines for road cars.
The Taycan was by far the best one I found.

My decision tree:

1) Is it an EV? I'll never buy another ICE. Environmental reasons.
2) Is it the best made, best driving EV you can buy? ...even if it's not the most efficient EV, because Solar Panels

So... Taycan!

I’m still not convinced there’s a big, if any, environmental benefit to EV’s. I’m open minded but there’s so much BS from both political parties, at least here in the US.

Long term wise what’s going to happen to all of these batteries? I hope it is better for the environment but I’m not 100% sold that it is as good as some say it is. It takes energy to mine the materials, energy to charge the batteries, and it’s absolutely not for everyone. The infrastructure here in the USA isn’t even close to being ready. It’s slowly improving but we have a long ways to go.

It also isn’t a “Texas” thing as Texas is one of the top states for EV’s. I see more and more every month. The price of battery replacement also has to come down, it’s insane right now and many won’t even consider owning an EV for that reason alone.

I'm curious about your username. I used to design parts for that incredibly versatile machine.

I used to fly them many years ago. I think the first forum I joined years ago I tried several different user names and they were all taken. Tried C130, it worked, and have used it ever since on a bunch of forums.

Not enough choices in the poll, but I think that's an impossible ask since Taycan owners come to the car from so many different backgrounds. My purchase was also greatly guided by the car not being my daily driver, so I had a lot of freedom in deciding what mattered most.

I have been in the Porsche world for 10 years and I hope to stay there for many many years. I bought the Taycan because it was the most aesthetically pleasing model that combines sportiness and space. It wasn't a requirement that it be electric but I said, why not? To date no regrets

I posted a reasoning, but it was a bunch of nonsense so I deleted it. I would not have bought a Taycan (or indeed anything at all) if it weren’t an EV. The main reason was the guilt associated with weekly skiing trips - burning gas to go enjoy the snow was positively dissonant. But I don’t know how to translate that into one of the choices, so let’s go with the second.

For me
1) I wanted to go back to Porsche. I’ve been in the BMW world for 15 years, mainly due to cost & practicality reasons
2) I don’t want to by an ICE car ever again, for environmental reasons.

However there’s no way I can justify a £100k car as being good for the environment. It must require a huge amount of co2 to manufacture.

I was tempted to say it was because of the environment, but it is not true. A car that consumes twice the energy than more economical cars (2.5 miles vs 4 miles per kwh) can't be environmentally friendly, no matter how virtuous I desire to be...
