I have been buying EV's (last 6 cars) because they offer the performance and convenience that ICE car cannot meat. I like the environmental impact (or lack thereof) but it was not the primary decision factor. I got into EV's because of government incentives which in my mind offset going with a new, unproved (11 years ago) technology. That said, I also bought 2 ICE cars more recently as the current administration government incentivized me to - I was looking for starter cars for my kids, but the the current government made sure I am ineligible for incentives which others get on cars like the Model 3, so to me it was like an extra $7,500 cost to buy any EV which qualified for the incentive (since others get the incentives, the resale value / residual is based on that discounted price) - who am I to question the will of the people, right? If the people vote for a government that wants to incentivize me to buy ICE cars instead of EV's, I will buy ICE cars, as long as they do the job and make more fiscal sense better than the disincentivized EV. I make my car decisions based on factors at the time I am shopping. I bought the Taycan because I wanted the performance of an EV but didn't want another Tesla (I didn't like their latest offerings).
