Hello all! Merry Christmas best wishes for everyone in the community.
I’m doing this poll since I’m a user that almost everyone has regen on, which has improved somewhat my range to 490km-495km (291mi-294mi) from 395km-415km (235mi-247mi).
I know that in the different regen modes and no regen at all the car drives different so I wanted to know y’all’s opinion.

regards!

Can we assume you mean what the manual calls "overrun recuperation"?

AFAIK, there is always energy recaptured when you press the brake, so everybody always has "regen on" in a sense. If you're speaking of the setting that starts slowing the vehicle as soon as you release the accelerator, I much prefer "coasting" and will never enable that option.

I'm not a mechanical engineer or physicist by any stretch of the imagination, but I also suspect that your additional range is caused by other factors, simply because TAANSTAFL on energy recuperation.

Let's say we have two identical Taycans going the exact same speed with the exact same SoC right next to one another. We both lift off the accelerator at the same time. You have "overrun recuperation" on, and I don't. You come to a complete stop A meters later, and I stop at B meters. Hopefully it's indisputable that B > A.

The interesting question is how much energy it will take you to go from A to B, and I contend it's more than I used, for two reasons: inertia and waste in the powertrain system. By the time you have traveled the same distance as I have, I think you would have to use more energy to get there, if everything else is held equal.

I will now wait for the people who actually know what they're talking about to point at me and laugh.

Oh yes you’re right.
My range has improved obviously from the car learning how I drive it and such.
For example where I live the are a LOT of elevations and range gets beaten harsh.
im just curious about how you guys use it.

Lol.

j/k ?

Do give it a try in traffic. I also find it useful in spirited mountain driving - in both cases, I do need a bit of slowdown, but not enough to justify braking. At any other time I prefer coasting as well.

Exactly the same for me. In the mountains and heavier traffic to slow it down a bit more. Rest coasting.

I'll keep it in mind. The entirety of my Taycan experience so far has been only about 20 minutes, most of which was across a virtually empty and very flat bridge. On the bright side, I managed not to hit anything.

I don't drive for highest mileage

I like auto regen because I wanted a different driving experience than my ICE and this mode fits me nicely. In traffic, I don't like having to brake just to slow the car a small amount so coasting isn't my preference, efficient as it may be.

Auto regen I treat as auto brake since it will apply significantly more regen than the overrun regen. I do also use it in heavy motorway/highway traffic for convenience when ACC is inconvenient.

Generally overrun regen I have off.

ACC wasn't optioned on my car so auto regen is my poor man's version. The price I paid for buying someone else's build... but the price I paid was pretty good :like:

Auto-Regen IS coasting until there's someone in front of you that warrants automatic slow down (through regen).
Yep, I get that but in FL there is ALWAYS someone in front of you.

Here’s how I use the various modes.

ON = in heavy traffic or during spirited driving

AUTO = group drives where I want to keep a certain amount of spacing

I use the default, I think Porsche got it well suited to my requirements.

Coasting in normal and on, ie simulation of IC engine liftoff in Sport.
I avoid heavy traffic as much as possible so haven’t tried auto, and not sure if I’d trust it anyway.

Auto Regen is very convenient in the heavy traffic of Paris area. Like it very much as it provides a smart mix between coasting when possible and automatic slowdown when a car emerges right in front of you. I'll have to test the real brakes at some point.... ?
