You don’t need uninsured in California, as it’s already covered by collision. Also, California is an overlap State, so in underinsured situations, there’s often little coverage by your policy anyway. I found that one out the hard way.

I have GEICO also in CA. $2200 a year for the Taycan 4s, but also have home insurance with them which drops rates a little. Covers 100K/300K liability, 50K property, $1,000 deductible.

Well, I commited to Porsche Insurance. $1,498 / 6 months for the Taycan and the X4 M40i. Covers 100K/300K liability, uninsured motorist 50/100. If the mileage per month is less than anticipated, I would get that refunded /carried over to the following month. $1,000 deductible. $120/day rental included. OEM endorsement even in the BMW.

$1,498 versus what AAA raised my premiums for ($6k+) is a win in my books.

I have not lived in CA for a long time, so not sure how it works here, but I did have a chance to use uninsured motorist insurance in WA state to cover a totaled 1 year old Model S. I had to prove it was the other driver's fault (easy thanks to dashcams which I install on all our cars). The other driver had no insurance (and fled the scene too, the police and insurance never found her afaik). The difference between utilizing uninsured motorist vs. collision was that it covered the $900 deductible plus it doesn't count as a claim which would raise your rates as collision claim would.

In California, the other side’s insurance gets applied against your underinsured coverage. For example, let’s say you get hit and your car gets totaled, loss is $150k. Let’s say the other party only has $100k of coverage, so you’re $50k short. Ah, but you think, you’re in luck, as you have $100k of underinsured coverage, that should cover the incremental $50k. Not in California. In California, they both cover from the first dollar of loss, so you have no coverage in this example. Buying this insurance in California is just throwing money away, as you’re already covered under collision. GEICO won’t even allow me to purchase UIM in California because I have collision.

Do you contact Porsche insurance through the dealership who delivers your car?

With Progressive for 2020 MB S450 and 2021 Taycan CT I pay $1,017/ 6 months with 100/300 coverage and 100/300 uninsured, underinsured. For Taycan is $473 out of the $1,017.

Moved over from AAA to GEICO. AAA was quoting a ridiculous $5500/yr premium just for the Taycan 4S. With GEICO, I am paying $1980/yr for all 3 cars (Taycan, Lexus, Honda) for the same coverage.
