Over the last couple of years there have been many discussions about charging our Taycans. Recently there was a discussion about Porsche saying not to charge too long at household sockets etc. It seemed mostly directed at US market and reflected upon the 120 volt charging. I guess 120 volt at 8 ampere, will not give very much power into the battery since the charging losses have been measured at 500+ watts?

Looking for some other charging related information, I came across a Porsche Newsroom advice on charging. It was called Fitness Programme for the Battery. Never seen this before.

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/pro...ging-infrastructure/charging-tips-tricks.html

If you scroll through all the slides and animation there, there is a summary at the end about good and bad. The last slide is the following with a bizarre info on AC charging .

Does this mean you need to find an AC station with at least 50 kW?? I have never heard about any of these and the car can not take it anyway!!

Secondly Avoiding long charging times at household sockets, is this bad for the battery??? Or do they just mean it is bad for the household wiring??

This is at variance with everything plausible I had read before.

In parts of the UK countryside 50kW is the maximum you will find, and there aren’t many of them!

Investment in infrastructure here is pityful.

I can understand 50 kW DC stations but can not understand the reference to AC in the same sentence???

I understand these advices for reducing the charging time.

Only last one doesn't start with Do not: i read it as do not charge from 20% (or less) at home. It'll take days, and may (?) not be good for battery life.

Yep as noted above. That whole page reads to me like stuff which will take far longer than average to charge - read don’t do this if you expect a reasonably fast charge outcome.

…rather than what’s “bad” for SoH or longevity.

So it’s really common sense stuff like don’t charge a cold / unwarmed battery or use a low power AC or DC EVSE if you’re expecting a quick charge experience.

It's missing a comma. The slide, which is talking about charging quickly on a road trip, is intending to say, "Do not use AC stations [at all], or DC stations < 50 KW."

I read it as a presentation on how to optimize charging. On one slide it says to charge, at home, overnight to have a maximum charge when departing the next morning.

I mean the title of the article is "Ideal Charging" after all. When I read it with that context it makes perfect sense, at least to my admittedly aged mind ;)

I think some subtlety has been lost in a German to English translation. It is all good advice for quick charging.

I wish if they were going to write guidance for new drivers, they would also cover charging etiquette. For example, the advice about not going over 80% is important for efficiency of the overall charging community, i.e. do not block chargers. They could also have added not to overstay.
While these issues may not be important in Germany, where they have much greater charging capacity, in the UK the lack of etiquette is becoming a serious problem, e.g. long queues at Ionity.
