I guess I'm of the minority opinion in this group. On occasion, I actually like the electronic sport sound of my Taycan. I find it particularly enjoyable and useful in Sport Plus mode, when doing some spirited backcountry driving. Under hard acceleration and deceleration, the sound helps me have more relationship to my speed without having to look at the speedometer (yes, I have the HUD, so I'm not relying on the sound to understand my speed). I like the way it sounds when it shifts into the 2nd gear at 60mph, and when it "blips" on deceleration. I think it sounds pretty cool inside the cabin. I've never heard what it sounds like from the outside.

That said, I don't use this feature often. My regular driving is in Sport mode, with the sound off. I too really enjoy the quietness of the cabin and how smooth the car drives. Hearing the subtle sounds of the electric motor is enough for my daily driving.

It was hard to tell what was happening in the OP's video. Was that ADDITIONAL electronic sound coming from the car? Like the cheesy stuff that some Tesla owner's do to their cars, simulating ICE engines, etc.? That's certainly not for me!!!

I hope there's no Taycan owners that do this to their cars!

In my view that Taycan didnt sound bad. It’s the principle of an artificial sound that I object to. If there was an electrical sound that was the bi-product of high HP that was pleasing to the ear, I would be open to it.…just like an ICE car with a v8.

Perhaps Ben would tell us what he thinks, and also what it is.
I use sport sound at night because of moose, but also enjoy it when I'm in sport plus mode with it's downshift blips.
Mine shifts into second at 80 MPH though, would prefer it to be lower.

We are not clicking the “Porsche Sound” on this order (but of course not saving that $500 because it freed up money for two other options).

Is the right decision. It totally unnecessary and despite Porsche efforts sounds detached from the car and even is perfect I would never pay for it because after trying a couple of times have turned it off completely.

I have sport sound. I did not plan to order one, but it came with a car. I use it if there are people walking dogs on the road I drive or if there is a likelihood of deer. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Most dogs do not like it, and that keeps them from jumping in front of the car.
I also use it in parking lots so people are not startled.

As far as making EV sound like ICE... well, you do you, but the way I look at it is the same way I look at people with XC90, like mine, who paid money for mod to sound like fake V8 when it is 4-banger with EV - you know those influencers who spent too much money on cosmetic surgery? Same reaction.

Yours shifts at 80 mph? Mine is right around 60 mph. I'm in a GTS ST.

I did not like the sound in the video the OP posted at all. I do wish I had the ESS that comes factory installed for occasional use as others have mentioned (to warn people in parking lots and also during spirited driving) but I don't want it to sound like an ICE vehicle. It would be cool to have a library of sounds to choose from.

It’s funny, I’ve waited my whole life for a “car from the future” which would be silent, and I have yet to buy it. I too have come to realize that some audible feedback would be useful on fast runs to keep informed about the speed of the car, and perhaps also could be a way to indicate overboost countdown and recharge. However, most of the time I would want to drive in silence, or really, no engine/exhaust noises masking my favorite music playing on the audio system.

I also realize from years now of walking around a town that filled up early with lots of Teslas, none of which make any pedestrian warning sounds while driving in the forward direction, that pedestrian alert is important in many urban situations. I’m not a fan of ICE engine simulations, in fact I’d really we rather forget entirely about the exhaust pollution and noise pollution these often purposely over-amplified vehicles make, but some type of sound is a good idea.

Early on there was suggestion that cars could make all kinds of even whimsical sounds, like “crickets chirping”, but this was eventually shot down by federal regulations which have yet to be enforced, that limits what type of sounds can be produced (and enviromental sounds like the crickets is not allowed).

I supposed, like so many other things on the Taycan, the toggle for the drive sound is buried deep in some menus and not very convenient to quickly toggle on when approaching an area where the sound would provide an extra measure of pedestrian safety.

Bit like vegan chicken drumsticks… its vegan or its chicken… it cant be both…

have the sound module in my car. Used it when driving with the kids, they think its cool. Oh and one time driving slowly through a very crowded street to warn them i was driving there..

I think I must be in the minority as I really like the sound. I tend to have it switched on most of the time, but most of that time I am driving on busy local streets where there are shops, schools and pedestrians, in particular when picking the kids up from school, so it does help ensure it can be heard for safety. However, I do tend to switch it off when on motorways. The kids think it is cool. My opinion is that the sound is not trying to emulate an engine, it is an electric sport sound, not and engine sport sound, so I guess I am just embracing Porsche's attempt to give their customers a sensory experience in the new world of electric cars. I accept that it is artificial, as the motors are silent, and I respect that many people don't like it. I tend to leave it switched off until I leave my road in the mornings out of courtesy to my neighbours.

Might play well in Miami but not in the real world. Paying for noise makes no sense to me. YMMV.

The Taycan standard pedestrian sound is very nice and distinctive. It’s different from the Jetson’s sound of Tesla, non binary sound of the Mercedes EV and the steam machine noise of Bmw, the cheap sound of MG.
however, when it comes to fake noise I think the Porsche expensive option is the best so far on the market. It was quite impressive recently. I was walking the centre of Copenhagen and suddenly this noisy Taycan drives through. I really liked the sound but found it a bit embarrassing for the driver.
When my CT was at the dealer for the battery recall the loaner Taycan (RWD) had the sound option and I found it quite amusing on windy roads. However day 2 I forgot about the sport sound.

I have it, rarely if ever have used it, I was so disappointed that the volume was so low.
