I still buy from and recommend CarMax, but they will sell cars with obvious damage unless it is documented frame/flood damage. They will not reveal any of their findings other than in the price as compared to like-for-like cars (not a lot of data for Taycans).

You can push them to do a full inspection, or have your own independent inspection (preferred) at which point they will likely work to perform work for you if serious issues are found. Otherwise you have the return policy. A typical dealership would have no problem foisting an issue like this off on a customer.

Take the car in to a trusted Porsche mechanic (with EV experience) and have it looked at. If you're not comfortable with any level of damage, return. There is ALWAYS another car out there for you. Pretty luck to have the option of a do-over!

Looks like someone routinely drove over a spot that they were too low to clear. I'm with the Don't Panic camp until you get it evaluated and see whether this is cosmetic or structural.

If you like the car, have them work with you to get everything ship shape.

Agree, it doesn't even look like the battery pack itself is scratched... only the layer of noise insulation on the sides.

I keep follwing this topic since this morning and I was thinking the same. Based on what I see and what I know about the Taycan sub frame, damages are located on the side layer which is a $100 piece. Not a big deal. I would bring the car to a dealer, have it inspected and get a quote to replace this piece.

I just purchased this 2021 taycan turbo from CarMax yesterday. Today I saw material/fabric hanging from the bottom of the car so I looked under it and looks like it’s scratched up even has a few holes. Are these holes something to worry about, if water gets in there will there be any damage? Is this normal wear and tear for the Taycan ? The car was sold to me with no stated issues or accidents/damage and it passed all the CarMax inspections and went through reconditioning. The rest of the car is in great condition.
Ouch. If the battery is damaged, it can cost you as much as what you paid for the car. I think it's bad enough that Porsche can also void warranty on anything battery related. I would 100% return it if you can. How much did you pay for it btw?

Yes they do, I’ll have it looked over in a few days by a different mechanic. I really want to keep it
You should take it to a Porsche dealership for battery damage inspection so that you’re not left holding the bag when they deny a battery related warranty.

I paid $79.9k, it’s fully loaded $167k msrp. 38k miles on it. I wasn’t expecting it to be in excellent condition. The only problem I noticed is the undercarriage rash/damage and it could use a full paint correction

Not a bad price. I'm selling my 2021 Turbo with 12k miles and have been getting offers in the low $80k's (although from dealers and services that plan to then flip it for $95k). My MSRP was also $167k so it's a good comparable (it's in my signature btw).

If I was shopping one, I would honestly try to find something with slightly lower mileage. You'll probably start seeing wear & tear in the seats at that point, and you'd need new tires if they don't already have them. But in your case, that's not even the issue. Tough call, but with reading prior reports of warranty claim issues with any undercarriage damage, I would honestly return it. If you really want to keep it, you'd want a Porsche dealership to verify that they won't deny future claims, etc..

Shop around for a CPO car nationwide. You can just have it shipped to you. You should be able to find a better deal than this.

Loo,ks like the battery cover maybe affected. If so expensive to replace and more importantly water can get into the batteries. Porsche did have to fix a number of battery covers by installing a new adhesive to keep water out. However, if there is that much damage they may deny the warranty

Hi , is there a recall for water in the back floor well ?
No I do not think there is a recall for that.

I have had this a couple of times. Once it was enough to take out the drain plugs in the battery cover plate under the car.

’But I also had to bring the car to the dealer to get the ventilation at the front checked. There was an air intake hose disconnected so when it rained it flowed straight into the car. Big job to fix.
