I pick up my granddaughter in my Taycan every week and take her to Starbucks to study math and then to a choir lesson. The drive segments are not very long, maybe 5 to 10 minutes max.

During those times though my granddaughter complains of motion sickness. She sits in the backseat because of her age and weight so I can’t move her to the front. She says this is not a problem in her parents car.

Has anyone else had to deal with something like this? I would appreciate suggestions.

Order the EmeTerm band from Amazon they work amazing for any form of motion sickness. It will be the best $86 you will spend for motion sickness. If you look on Amazon there are other bands which do the same thing so you can go wrong with others. Some have rechargeable batteries and some use replaceable batteries.
On a side note, don’t try try dark blue bands for $8 they are useless.

Good luck!

Stiffen up the suspension? Some people are more sensitive to the floatiness of air suspension. Often overlooked is driver input, you know what you're doing so you don't feel the effects of the car as much. Pay extra attention to your throttle and brake inputs?

Not saying you're a bad driver lol. But check out this guy and the power/regen meter. This was an Uber I took not too long ago. He drove like this the whole 20min car ride. I wanted to puke.

This is a great point. Which setting would you recommend to stiffen the suspension? Just put it in sport mode or something else?

I've never travelled in the back, but imagine that the front seats will block much of the view ahead, so if you have a middle seat perhaps worth her trying it.

I personally suffer from motion sickness in car back seats a lot and it is largely related to view rather than motion (or the ability so see outside and front in particular). I also hate cars with tinted windows because they also limit my view out and immediately make me sick. Giving children a high seating position could help a lot. Middle seat would be perfect, and even if you don’t have the middle seat option, if your granddaughter is young enough and requires a child seat, there is a way to put the child seat in the middle and secure it if it has non-rigid isofix connections (you can use interior anchors of both rear seats to secure it in the middle). This works as long as the child seat has its own seat belts. If she is older i’d recommend a seat booster that raises her eye level.

Yeah, I wish I had the middle seat. I didn’t take that option.
I wonder if the vacant front seat has enough range of motion to tilt it forwards or back, combined with shifting the base forwards, to gain a worthwhile view from the back.

I am very sensitive to motion sickness. I made the following adjustments as a driver:

- Limit float by setting to stiffer suspension (Sport)
- Sport may enable Regen and that needs to be OFF so you are coasting
- I had Regen in Auto and I was getting motion sick as car slows down without driver input
- Sports sound may help as any sound in sync with driving makes it better
- Ask your granddaughter not to look down at a device
- Glass Roof should help by looking over the seats into the distance
- I think listening to a calm music helps me as well

She’s 5 feet, nine years old, and somewhat skinny. The middle space in the back and a booster just aren’t an option but thanks for the thought.

I’m going to try all of these.

If you have Sport Sound, turn it on while she is in there. For some people the acceleration with no audible cues (shifting of transmission, engine revs) can cause motion sickness. There was a big discussion on the iX boards on Bimmerpost, and turning on the electric noise helped 99% of people with this issue.

My mother suffers from motion sickness, and was told by doctors that the most common cause is a "mismatch" of sensory input, where some senses are telling you you are in motion, while others are telling you you are at rest.

Many of the suggestions I've seen so far in this thread address aspects of this - getting the person to be in a position to see the outside going by, firming the suspension so that she "feels" like she's moving, and so on. I think it might be helpful to describe the general heuristic to her, if only so that she can feel like she can discover and implement mitigation strategies by herself, and getting her conscious mind "on board" with the effort by "telling" herself that she's in motion.

That being said, what I really came here to say is that Suncoast sells barf bags with the Porsche crest on them. They're US $200 for a four-pack.
