I wanted to see if anyone else has this problem with their recuperation. Every morning I start my drive to go to work, there are a few stop signs before I get on the main road. My recuperation doesn't work until maybe I am about half a quarter mile out. The car only uses breaks instead of using recuperation as well.

It's supposed to. It uses the brakes for first part of a drive to clean off rust and keep them in good condition.
Oh! I had no idea tbh because Tesla never did that unless you charged the car to 100%. Thanks!

I think the specific details are mentioned in the manual as well if memory serves.

There are other times that friction brakes are used exclusively.

Copied from another post:
https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/braking.11398/#post-166347

The car uses friction brakes exclusively:
  • during the first few hundred miles of new brakes to bed the brakes
  • during the first small amount of braking for the first drive after the car has been sitting
  • at very low speeds or when stopped

yeah lol i havent read a manual since I learned about manuals existed. I will say though Tesla is very good about notifying every little thing that happens in the car. It even tells you if your center console is open and to close it softly. Some may find it annoying but I find it to be more intuitive.

Silly question, but how can you tell when it’s using which method for braking?

There’s a recup meter on the dash, but nothing to tell you how much friction braking is being used.

I think if you've got into friction brake territory, you're supposed to be looking at the road, not a graphic on your dash! 🤪

Maybe it can be on a heads up display.

Yeah I got HUD as an option so it is really easy to see. You can actually feel the difference too. When only using friction brake, the initial bite is not as hard.

Didn’t know what meter you were referring to since I keep my dash middle screen as map but I found this in the manual that shows the green recup graphic.

I wish I had this problem with my 2021 Mustang Mach E :). If I drive in "Unbridled" mode with single pedal driving, the brakes are hardly ever used. Good for brake dust and power recovery, but I have to turn off 1 pedal driving or even ride brakes and accelerator at the same time every so often or I get a really nasty braking sound when the literal accumulated rust is so rough and the actual pads/rotors are used. Never had this issue with Tesla model 3 because it doesn't do any brake regeneration... brake pedal is always using pads and rotors...
