Roof Rack For Cross Turismo

Hi all,

I’m thinking of getting a roof rack for my CT, mainly for use for skis maybe a bike so I plan on taking it on and off.

Is there any reason to go with the OEM vs the Thule black one? Does it affect range? I noticed there are screw holes in my roof bars that come with the CT what are those for?

This has been discussed at length in earlier forum threads. The OEM bars have metal-on-metal clamps that engage with the holes that you mention. Further, it's easy to put them on the wrong way around (180° rotated) and then the metal clamps, in the wrong orientation, clamp down onto the aluminum roof rails at the wrong angle and mar the surface.

The Thule bars attach differently, with a rubberized tension belt. They are slightly more aerodynamic too. I own them and am happy with them.

I use the OEM bars.
The bar sits higher than the Thule model in your image. This is likely a good thing given the cost of the glass roof.
I've had aero bars before. They look better, but you need to remove the bars to fit a t-track bolt which can be a pain at times.

I have the Thule bars and they work fine, don't see the point of spending more for the OEM. I've done a few thousand kms with the roofbox on and haven't had any issues.

Hijacking this thread for a roof box /ski rack comparison.

I have a large Thule roof box and also Thule ski rack. Planning on a 2000km round trip this winter.

would the box or ski rack x 3 skis be better for range. Obvs the roofboox is more streamlined but the skis have a much smaller profile but more turbulent airflow.
