Should I pay £1000 for OPC Taycan preparation detailing and paint protection?!?

My OPC just contacted me with 2 options of preparation, detailing and paint protection for my GTS ST which is scheduled to arrive late March - one at £600 (at the OPC using Autoglym products) and one at £1000 (done externally - paint preparation and ceramic coating).

Despite the fact that 'paint correction' on a brand new £100k car seems frankly ridiculous, should I get this done - which option, with the OPC, find another option after collection, not at all?

Not the one at the dealer. Go to a standalone shop. No dealership will do as good a job (not their fault, it's just not their primary business!) and frankly that's edging on too cheap to actually be anything high quality.

Paint correction on a new car is far from ridiculous - the results will just be a lot easier for the detailer to achieve as there won't be any marring to correct before the polishing.

I have a good friend who runs a high end shop in New York and I've seen the before and after, even on cars with 500 miles, and it's noticeable. I'm not going to say it's essential but you will see the results, absolutely. The fact is that 4-8 hours of polishing work isn't something any OEM is going to do on their production line, so that craft and detail work from proper paint correction and detailing will definitely show. I'm about to do it myself on my 2020 Turbo, cannot wait.

Porsche paint is generally quite good but there is a small amount of swirls even on a new car. It will only need a stage one correction at most.

I picked mine up had it a week then took to the detailer dirty as he advised me. They will go a clean, small correction then another wash then the ceramic Then leave overnight. Find out the dealer being used and you might get it cheaper as they will want a cut! £1000 is twice what i paid!

Cheaper one is worth it but haggle. Threaten to take your GAP insurance elsewhere and that will sharpen the focus AND then talk about alloy wheel and tyre insurance. Push to get both for half price if you take the dealers GAP insurance.

The paint on Porsche cars is normally acceptable, but there can be some orange peel effects, overspray and certainly a lot of swirl marks. The paint is not perfect in any way. If you intend to keep the car it is well worth having it properly corrected and ceramic coated. Professionally done that comes with a guarantee for several years. Not a fan of Autoglym products, they have never lasted long for me.

Some upmarket dealers here contract in professional retailers and do the job at Porsche and other brands. Check if your dealer does that or just has the wash guy giving it a clean over.

Personally I would recommend taking it to a professional detailer that you know of and have checked his work. If Successful they take an enormous pride in their work. And I would take the car yo the detailer unwashed by Porsche.

Thanks all. Very interesting to know a bit more about this. The general consensus seems to be worth getting it done, get it done locally outside of the OPC, and pay for initial correction and ceramic coating with a guarantee. Super helpful. Thanks all.

Can I ask, is that the OPC Aberdeen? I'm buying a used 4S from them and managed to get free Gtechniq done on it - would be good to know that they're good!

Yes it is.

I would not say they are 100% excellent at doing it - I had to get them redo part of mine last week before taking delivery as they missed bits. Now that I've had the car 2 weeks the inside of the glass has been poorly cleaned (I wish they hadn't touched it) and so I'll redo myself.

Overall, the product is good, the application of it can be a hit or a miss.

Getting it "free" is a bonus.

I guess for 1st March handovers that they were a tad busy (no excuse but I suffer hugely from OCD and expect a lot when it comes to detailing etc).

Which 4S did you pick - hope its not my grey one, the heater failed 2 weeks ago when I was at the dealership....other than that, 1 careful owner and never 'launched'?

Haha no, it's a silver one with the red interior... apparently no heater failure yet apparently but I'm sure I'll get that somewhere down the line!!
