Hello all,

So, I made a previous thread, and also pretty much read all the threads made on this topic in regard to the sideview camera, ever since I noticed that some people have it, while I haven't had it ever since i got my car.

This is how the camer looks if you are one of the lucky ones that have it:

The consensus online is that if you have Remote Park Assist, for some reason this option is gone for no good reason.

But here's the thing, I don't have remote park assist or whatever the thing where the car parks itself is called. And I still don't have the sideview cameras option in my PCM.

So, I went looking at Porsche's CPOs, comparing specs of cars that have it and cars that don't. And here's the kicker, in identical spec cars (in terms of assistance), some have it and some don't. Indentical specs, some have it, some don't.

If you check the pictures of the listing, to be more precise the reversing camera view picture.

Example of car NOT having it: Used Porsche Taycan Turbo for sale at Porsche Used Car Centre Basel ( ParkAssist incl. Surround View, Lane Change Assist, Porsche InnoDrive incl. adaptive cruise control, HomeLink® (Garage Door Opener), Comfort access, Night vision )

Example of car having it: Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo gebraucht beim Porsche Gebrauchtwagenzentrum Basel kaufen ( ParkAssist incl. Surround View, Lane Change Assist, Porsche InnoDrive incl. adaptive cruise control, HomeLink® (Garage Door Opener), Comfort access)

Both cars do not have Remote Park assist, and are identical in terms of assistance features - which is indicated by a different icon for park assist, with a driving wheel.

My car, same specs in terms of assistance, with no remote parking assistance, also not having the side view camera

The only conclusion I can reach, is that this is some sort of software bug / some broken PCM update - since the physical cameras are there, and they work for surround /3d view. I am thinking of asking my dealer when i go to change my wheels to do a checkup, but afraid the car will be stuck in service forever...

Anyone else with no remote park assistance that also doesn't have this option?

You must have 360 / Surround view to see the side view. If your door mirrors have cameras in them (obvious when you look at them) - slight bulge with a lens cover on the underside - then you have the option but for some reason not enabled.

Sounds like you don't have surround view - nothing to do with Remote Park Assist (which is the layer on top and requires surround view as an option).

Hello,

As I mentioned in my initial post: ParkAssist incl. Surround View is specced on my car.

It is also specced on the cars i listed as examples, with links. One of which has the side view present and one of which doesn't.
So, the feature is missing, despite ParkAssist incl. Surround View & full inno drive being specced into the car.

I have also mentioned that the camers exist under the mirrors, and they work for the surround view, but the "side view" button is simply missing.

Car A with ParkAssist incl. Surround View:
Porsche Taycan Sideview cameras view missing {filename}

Car B with ParkAssist incl. Surround View:
Porsche Taycan Sideview cameras view missing {filename}

Both cars have exact same hardware and exact same assistance features; both have ParkAssist incl. Surround View. One has the sideview, one doesn't.

Does this make it more clear?

The physical cameras are there. And seems like quite a few cars have this missmatch if you look at CPOs. Some cars with surround view have the option, some don't. Can't see why

Side view is not available if you have Remote Park Assist even though you have the mirror cameras for reasons only known to Porsche

This suggestion is somewhere in the "getting hit by lightning" range of likelihood, but just to throw it out there: maybe the cars that don't have the sideview had their mirrors removed at some point by either an unqualified tech or somebody who forgot to reenable the sideview module in software after the mirrors were reattached to the car.

The good news would be that if by some miracle that would happen to be accurate, then it should be a really simple dealer reset to bring it back.

My bet is on the same reason why some people without Remote Park Assist don't have it either. Some sort of faulty software.

I will ask my dealer when i go end of March to have a look.

Not the case, at least with my car. Don't know anything about the other 2 examples.
Beside software updates and brake fluid changes, my taycan had nothing else done to it (unless they did something and didn't document it).

MY2020 cars that was specified with Surround View (without Automatic parking assist) receive additional sensors (see attached photo where I've marked those sensors with red). All cars having those additional sensors got the 3d surround view with additional camera views in the PCM.

Those two sensors was removed for MY2021+ cars speced without Automatic Park feature and hence does not have the 3d surround view feature either.

This should however for sure be a software thing since cars with Surround view have the necessary hardware. Porsche however decided to enable the 3d view software feature only for MY2020 cars where those sensors came with all Surround view cars.

Nicely spotted. This definitely clarifies which car have it and which don't and why.

I find it weird that cars with more hardware / extra sensors don't get that view. Remove a feature just for the sake of removing a feature...

It definitely seems like just a weird software restriction. I will try my luck with the guys at my dealer in Geneve, maybe they can reach out to Stuttgart over the border and get a fast answer.

All cars had 3D surround view whether it was optioned or not if you had 360 surround view due to a software bug (no side parking sensors required either) by using a well documented hack on this forum. This bug was addressed with the MY22 software update on all cars unfortunately.

The side sensors (as per other models) are for hands free park assist (remote or not).

Appreciate you looking into this. I noticed this a long time ago and neglected to post. This could prevent a lot of curb rash for the community 👍

Yes, I'm well aware of the software bug etc, but since we're passed that software update that is not longer relevant. What I tried to explain is that MY2020 cars came with those additional sensors when Surround view was optioned and MY2020 cars still have the 3d view enabled. This was all in response to OP's question where he posted links to a MY2020 car and one MY2022 car and wondered why it was different.

Interesting and great observation. I do have surround view, not remote parking, these extra sensors, , Innodrive etc, but I do not get that 3rd view and certainly not side views. Would be great to avoid curb rash!

That was very interesting. It's the first MY2020 I've heard of that doesn't have 3d surround view despite the 360 camera + sensors. Wondering then which additional option is needed on MY2020 to get 3d surround view in PCM?

It will be very interesting to hear what response the OP gets from his dealer. I myself have a 360 camera in my 2022, but without 3d surround view and would love to have it if it could be obtained via software update.

If I were a guessing man, as I work in IT, I'd say they flashed the wrong PCM update version on some cars... as in, they probably have different files for different car specs, and they probably just flashed the update for the wrong car spec.

Will update the thread end of march / beginning of April, when I go to dealer to change to summer wheels.
