I have had my Taycan 4S for a month with absolutely no problems. Timed charging, with an occasional direct charge, worked great until this week. My setting was for the car to be charged at 6:15AM with a target charge of 85%. One morning I noticed that my car did not charge overnight. Since then, I have noticed that the car will charge for only a few minutes after plugging in, initially at 0.4 mi/min then gradually dropping down to 0.0 mi/min. This happens whether I am in timed charge or direct charge. I have tried changing or deleting my timer settings and changing or deleting my charging profile. I tried the ports on the passenger and driver's side. I even went to an Electrify America site but that didn’t work at all.

The tech specialist from my dealer came to the house to check the settings on the car, my Connect app, and my charger and he could not figure it out. He is checking with the experts in the service department and Porsche for a possible solution.

The only time the charger seems to stay running for more than a few minutes is if the car is on! I accidentally discovered this when I switched the car on to see the battery display on the console control pattern. I browsed the Forum to see if anyone has had a similar problem but was unsuccessful. I even read the whole “Will my car charge tonight?” thread but I couldn't find and answer.

Any advice?

I seem to remember a similar thread here from a few weeks where a car would quickly quit charging. But in that case the PMCC displayed an error message and IIRC there was a grounding issue with the PMCC that needed to be corrected. No error message in your case so probably not the same issue.

If you are experiencing the same issue when using Direct Charge (bypasses all timers and profiles) then that suggests a fault either with your home EVSE or the AC charger on the car.

What charger do you have?

What happens when you use a public AC charge point?

I went to a level 2 public charger and it worked for the 34 minutes that I was connected. So that is good.
The dealer brought a replacement Porsche mobile charger plus and the same problem occurred- charged for a few minutes.
So it may be a problem in the electrical outlet installation. The dealer’s tech guy thinks the plug is not fitting well into the wall socket and there may be a grounding issue. The electrician is coming Tuesday morning to see if that is the issue.
Thanks!

So the electrician came on Saturday (!) and did some work. He pronounced it fixed. Several minutes later the charging slowed down and stopped.
The dealer tech guy switched out the charger. That didn’t work. He used my charger on his car at his home charging system and his Taycan charged fine. Currently I am at an EVgo site and the car is accepting the energy rapidly. So far I have gone from 47% to 95 % in 28 minutes. That makes me happy that the car ‘s charging system works.
The electrician says there is one more thing to check that still might need fixing . . . He’s coming back on Tuesday morning.

If you have a voltmeter, you can check your home circuit at the plug.

L1 to neutral should read 120 volts
L2 to neutral should read 120 volts
L1 to L2 should read 240 volts

So the electrician and Porsche dealer tech guy came to my home garage. They tested all aspects of the Mobile Charger, outlet, etc., even brought another Taycan to my home to charge on my Porsche Mobile Charger Plus. Everything in my charging system seems good, so they think the issue is in the car. They took my car to the service department to see if they can figure it out. There’s 5 Taycan’s in the service department ahead of me. Getting disappointed now.

Does the PMCC charge ok at the 120v outlet?
Yes the PMCC seems to be working ok. They brought another Taycan to my house and tried my PMCC and my outlet today and it worked fine on the other car. But mine stops charginh after about five minutes

I don’t have a voltmeter, but the electrician came again today with the Porsche tech guy and now they think the problem is in the car

I guess your dealer (like mine) does not know how to schedule better and allow you to keep driving the car until it is your turn, instead they will have it parked in their lot for days..
In other words you cannot get in line unless you surrender your car.

Yes, maybe I can keep using the car and ask them to call me when they are on the last car before me

The AC charger is built into the car. The device that plugs into your car is called an EVSE. It sounds as if the charger is faulty. Do you have any means to measure the amperage the car is drawing? A whole house energy meter or similar? I’d be curious if what the car is displaying (in kW) lines up with the actual amperage draw.

So the service department experts at the dealer think they have a solution. As andrewket postulated the problem involves the AC charger. Here is my probably too simple understanding of the problem. There is a cooling system that keeps the AC charger cool during the charging process. As the charging progresses, the AC charger heats up and a valve opens that blows cool air on the charger. In my car the valve is stuck. Once the AC charger overheats, the charging process shuts down. That is why my home charges turned off after several minutes of charging. This does not affect DC charging. They are ordering the replacement valve/part from Germany! It will arrive sometime next week.
As chrisk suggested, I asked if I could get the car back until the part arrives. They said the car is in a state of disassembly and it would take a while to put it back together. I might be able to get a loaner, but they have a lack of loaners at this time.

My car was returned tomyhome today. The stuck AC charger/battery “cooling valve was replaced and now the cat can hopefully charged again.
