Wow it's been a while since I posted here! I have a 2021 Turbo (specs in my signature). Love the car, but don't really drive it enough to enjoy it. I considered selling it a couple of times but can't find anything better to buy (and I still need a car, even if I don't drive it much). I don't like keeping cars last warranty, which gives me a little over a year on my Taycan. I wonder if I should trade it in a little earlier now before the refresh comes out (that will lower my trade in value)?

I don't think I really need the HP of the turbo and would get a GTS now. What do you guys think? Anyone in a similar boat with a 2020 or 2021 Taycan? And yes I know values have plummeted lately, but at the same time they are doing discounts on new ones again.

Can you buy an extended warranty still? If that’s your only reason for selling and you don’t drive it that much, that may be a better option.
Also nice to get something new 🤣. I'm at 10k miles in 2.5 years. I don't drive a ton, but probably more then some others in here. But yes, I could go the extended warranty route I suppose.

You're going to eat way, way more money trading in a '21 Turbo now than owning it out of warranty would cost.

There aren't any significant differences between a 21 and 24 car. Also don't be so sure that the facelift will lower used 21-24 prices, many people don't like the new design language. There have been a number of examples from Porsche where the .1 cars retained more value than the .2 cars.

Also, to be clear, the GTS is a step down from the Turbo. You'd be losing money to get a lower tier car. So unless you just want to mix it up with a new spec, and you're willing to eat money to do it, I'd pass.

If you considered selling due to not using much can’t see what benefit you’d get from doing this?

Based on your comments I think you have 2 real options...

1. Extended warranty on your current vehicle.
2. Pick the most interesting non-EV to you, and drive that for a few years

You already have the best EV and you don't drive it very much. Swapping to a new newer version of the same thing is not going to scratch your itch for something new. There is basically no point to choosing another EV IMO so that leaves you with a huge range of possible options in the ICE vehicle world.

…..then again, if you got an ‘itch’ and the cash……why not, go enjoy….far too much serious stuff in the news and around the World at the moment, so if you can find some self enjoyment….go do it 🫡😎

I have been wrestling with the same decision and I am leaning toward keeping my 2021 4s. Originally, I was going to bite the bullet and trade it in. Now, not so much. Let me make up some numbers.................... Let's say that a new 4S is going to be in the $140k-!50k range - split the difference - $145k. Now let's say that my current car is worth $85k on a trade - $90k if to make it even more 'in favor' of new. So essentially I am getting the exact same car with a new 3 year warranty for $55k. $55k will cover a LOT of non-warranty repairs on my current car. Even at $5,000 a pop I am still way way ahead by keeping my current car - AND - if I purchase an extended warranty through my dealer I am still way ahead. Of course there is something to be said about a new car, but with 17,000 miles and only one rock chip on the hood I feel that my car is still new and I get that happy feeling every time I open the door and buckle up for another exhilarating ride. That's just me.......................

Same position here also. I’ve a 2021 turbo. Fully owned by me, love it even though it seems to have more trips to the stealers than any other car I’ve owned.
Faced with keep it and whack a Porsche extended warranty on it then look again in 12 or so months. Swap it in for another Taycan. Maybe Turbo S. but I can’t seem to get excited over that.
sell it and move to something completely different although I’d like to stick to EV. Maybe Audi. Wished Bentley did a full EV.
For now. I think it’s grab an extended warranty and carry on enjoying driving the car.

Yup, about where I'm at with the situation. Audi EVs are being super discounted now btw. Bentley you'll need to wait another 2 years. Polestar 6 looks nice too, but also 2 more years.

I have a 21 4s and have the same conclusion as you nicely summarized.

@amelen , are you thinking of switching because you are bored of the current car, or because there is something you want in the new car, or perhaps you need a new car for business reasons - perhaps some Wall Street bankers judging your success based on having a flashy new car every 2-3 years, so if you drive an old Taycan they don't want to invest with you? ;)

If bored of current car, a new Taycan will not be much different. If it's a color change you want, a wrap will be much cheaper and give you a much wider choice of colors. Unless there is some feature of the Taycan you didn't originally spec but it's worth 10's of thousands to you, I don't see why switch over just drive what you have. Heck, even extended warranty might be a question. If you're willing to spend $50K+ to upgrade to a new Taycan, perhaps you should self-warranty your car, $50K buys a lot of repairs, especially that the most expensive one (battery) would still be covered by Porsche.

If you want a new car, what do you want? You could try out the new guys, like Lucid Saphire - 1234hp. From what I hear it's a well engineered car which handles decently - the drawbacks are looks which not everyone loves, unproven company and potentially longevity of their designs, but if you're only keeping it for a couple of years, it should last just fine. Of course if you have more cash to blow, go with Rimac Nevera - it should satisfy all of the above - cure boredom, quench your thirst for something new, and impress a lot of people. :)

Of course if EV is not a requirement, the world of interesting ICE cars is much bigger, though matching power and torque will cost you a lot more.

…considering that I have owned (4) separate Turbo S Taycan’s I would step up to the Turbo S and do entirely different spec, wheels, options, everything if you’re trying to justify it I agree the Turbo to GTS is a step down.
