Center screen in the CLUSTER is what I said - not PCM.

I think the term "center screen" here is being confused. You can only display CarPlay on the main PCM screen, which is the top screen in the center of the car. You cannot display CarPlay in the center of the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel.

Which makes sense, given the shape of things.
Yep, I bet Porsche could, fairly easily, enable Carplay's "second screen output" on the instrument cluster display with a software update. But given the odd shape, it would probably look funny or they'd have to "letterbox" it to make it fit. Even so, I think most people would accept that to have the functionality. Maybe they will eventually offer this as part of an OTA update

Wait, you are supposed to agonize for weeks over the config! :p
months…with many changes in the last 12 hours to drive your sales guy crazy.

I asked the sales people at my local Porsche Center how they cope with the job and they said you had to have a certain mentality to work there, and that not everyone stayed in the job. I was not surprised, I am certain I would yell at some man-baby coming in for the 234th time to change his config. :CWL:

I went from a 100D to. Taycan 4S a month ago. Here are my impressions:

build quality is not comparable- Taycan is better and it is not even close.

range seems to be pretty comparable- I never got the range that Tesla said, I think there is not a clear winner.

wow factor is not even close- I cannot telll you how many times I’ve been approached about my Taycan, it justa stunner!

I’m not a big fan of the ElectrifyAmerica network. Not as robust as supercharger and not as reliable. This is really the only thing I’m disappointed with.

hooe that helps, generally I’m in love with my Taycan and never doubt the switch.

Jsteve, I agree with everything you said. I'm hopeful that the expansion of the EA network throughout 2021 helps keep the road trip charging on point with, or exceed, the Tesla network.

I never did get the rated range in my 2020 Model 3 @ 322. After a few months 100% SOC was 310-315. I drive in perfect conditions for and EV: consistent warm temps (70-80F), flat roads, no heat use.

My wife has a model X and I recently took delivery of a Taycan Turbo. All the comments above are spot on. Perhaps I will add one note, the Tesla wants to drive YOU but the Taycan as a true Porsche, wants you to drive IT! I love my Taycan!

Range is a tough thing to nail down especially for folks in the colder climates. I am still not sure if Porsche was right to understate the Taycan's range. It gave the wrong impression to prospective owners and likely hurt initial sales significantly.

As a side note, when I test drove the Taycan locally a few months ago, I told them I was going to road trip the car. They were surprised and did not know it was possible. They said most owners use the cars around town. Ha.

for most drivers of any car the majority of their driving is local.
range anxiety is an issue for but more so for the newbies.
once you learn your car and it's capabilities range anxiety is easily solved by planning your road trips and knowing that there is almost always a place to charge.

most of the EA chargers are spaced 100-150 miles apart so as long as you charge properly you should never be concerned with range.

that said there are many holes in the charging network and planning your routes to unfamiliar places is important.

Porsche Taycan 4S+ 2020
Country flag
Last weekend we took both cars, MS90D (2016) and Taycan 4S+ to a hotel 133 km (navi) away. We charged both cars to 100% just before departure. It is mostly busy highway driving with less than 15 traffic lights.

The Taycan
  • Slightly more passenger load
  • Slightly higher tire pressure
  • Driving mostly in Range mode with AC in eco plus
The MS90D
  • Slightly less passenger load
  • Slightly lower tire pressure
  • Driving with AC switched off

When we arrived at the hotel:

We used the MS90D for a couple of short local trips and then returned home:

Left the hotel with 53% SoC and arrived home after 133km with 16% SoC with AC and one more passenger.

I drove my Taycan back in need to catch a tee-time, so Sports mode, AC and Porsche style driving on. With some local driving during the week:

Porsche Taycan Switching from Telsa Model S to Taycan 4S. Feedback from anyone who has done this?! 1618631571523

Final stats

On the way to the hotel:
MS90D: 135.3 km, 16.8 kWh/100km used 33% SoC, total 403 km
Taycan: 132.2 km, 15.5 kWh/100km used 23% SoC, total 578 km

Total range with one full charge:
MS90D: 302.8 km, 18.4 kWh/100km left 16% SoC, total 350 km (217 mi)
Taycan: 425.1 km, 18.3 kWh/100km used 98% SoC, total 435 km (270 mi)

Conclusion

I even don't quite understand, how this MS90D can perform so poorly. We treated the battery very well over the years always slow charge to 85%. The total mileage with 55k km is not that much and the car has never seen a winter. The gap between marketing and reality is remarkable.

My Taycan has been super solid so far. I just love it!

I love me some data - thanks @feye - 270 miles range matches my experience with my Taycan as a reliable range number you can expect when driving it. I also rarely got the EPA numbers from my Tesla’s - but my experience has been my Tesla S/X get about the same efficiency as my Taycan.

the Taycan is very consistent - but the Tesla numbers seem to be all over the map but never close to EPA numbers.

The battery chemistry on the 90’s backfired on Tesla. They switched again for the 100’s which has less degradation.
