Banff is one of my favorite places in the world for amazing scenery. And the Fairmont hotel there is quite the classic large hotel, also. Glad to see that you decided to spend the night there rather than just plow on through to Vancouver. I long to get back to Banff...

On a whim... I stopped in at the Fairmont Chateau on Lake Louise and asked the front desk if they had any cancellations. Magically, they did have an available room.

So, even though it might delay my arrival in Vancouver tomorrow by staying here, I can’t pass it up.

So here I sit... drinking mulled wine, having lunch, at the side of Lake Louise.

You timed it perfectly for the ice sculptures which are only out for a month or so - mountain views don't get a whole lot better than that! We all love your pioneering spirit and are enjoying your journey!

Today’s lesson, or rather, a reinforcement of a known lesson: When you travel, the people you meet are a mirror. If you project friendliness and kindness and joy and curiosity, it will be reflected back upon you.

I was in a good mood when I arrived at this beautiful hotel. The gentleman who took care of me at the front desk found me a room here when I was sure the hotel was fully booked. We chatted, and talked, and it was a good enough interaction that I shared the URL to the forum page where I’m writing about this crazy adventure. Very nice guy, Michael is.

Later in the day, I’m sitting in the “Living Room” area of the hotel. A quiet place with a lovely view of the snow covered landscape. I was texting my Portland (Oregon) friends, arranging things.

As I sat, drinking tea and texting, a woman walks up with a laptop and asks if I was there for the History presentation. “Is it here?” I asked?

“Yes, right here, but you seem to be the only person,” she replied, “you don’t have to stay.”

“No, I’d love to listen. Please go on.”

(I’m paraphrasing)

She proceeded to tell me history of Canada, railroads, Banff, First Nation peoples of the area, and a history of the hotel in all of its stages of development. Maybe an hour long.

Then we just talked. About travel, the places we’ve lived, tipping cultures, what it’s like working for a five-star hotel, names, Game of Thrones, and many other topics. A thoroughly delightful conversation that only happened because of where I happened to be sitting.

Her name is Kalisi, which was also her mother and grandmother’s name. Hence the GoT discussion; a question she gets often these days.

She happens to be Michael’s partner. So, apparently I’ve made two friends today! It’s a good day.

This is a wonderful thread, thank you for sharing your experience with us. When back, consider putting something on YouTube or similar. Everything reminds me of Bjorn Nyland's early videos on model S - you would do the same for the Taycan.

It’s 7°F outside now, the sun has set, but the beauty remains all around. So I grabbed my big camera and went outside.

I’m sorry... you can’t see those pictures, because I didn’t bring a laptop, and the camera’s Bluetooth and WiFi doesn’t seem to want to share pictures to my phone. So, you get good, but not as great, photos from outside in the snowscape.
