Attention San Francisco Bay Area Taycan Forum members.

Don is coming into the area and I am organizing the lunch on February 12 in the San Jose general area.

If you’d like to attend, please direct message me through the Forum’s “email” function. I need a number by Monday evening please.
Very nice, Ken! If/when this occurs please take loads of photos/videos for us folks on the right coast. This gentleman is a true trailblazer and deserves every bit of our appreciation and celebrate his groundbreaking Taycan adventure!!

Thanks

A dangerous threshold to cross. Powell’s Bookstore in Portland, Oregon.

I took the bus across town to celebrate Muppet’s birthday with Müppet, Merry, and two of their friends. Wonderful brunch at Blackhearts.

Then I trekked to Mecca: Powell’s City of Books. The Rare Book Room is especially dangerous.

Tsundoku (Japanese: 積ん読) is acquiring reading materials but letting them pile up in one's home without reading them. The term originated in the Meiji era (1868–1912) as Japanese slang. It combines elements of tsunde-oku (積んでおく, to pile things up ready for later and leave) and dokusho (読書, reading books).

Very much so. I once visited NYC and spent two days in the city library instead of sightseeing...

Just a quick note to say thank you Louv for taking so much time to document and journal your trip, plus answer all of our questions. I was ready to put in my 4S order when I saw the optional DC charger. I had asked my dealer to give it a quick look-see and comment on anything missing. It was not something he mentioned and I am still an EV virgin so it blew right past my untrained eye. Thank you for indirectly helping me correct what would have been a critical mistake. We (fiancé and I) are in Central Florida and would love to buy you lunch should you make it inland for some reason. We would even drive over to the coast to meet you since your route will likely be on I-95. Take care and we are enjoying reading of your adventure.

.

Save the fight for rennlist. Here people get along and the comments didn’t derail things anymore than Don’s audiobook suggestions. :)

But I too live on the Pacific Rim and am surprised to hear there’s a Portland outside of Oregon. In England perhaps?

Glad you made it through the Great White North. I think you’ll do a lot less 50k charting now. Got a copy of the Alister Stone book.
Comments are clearly from those who don't realize that the base of civilization and class is east of the Continental Divide ;)

Welcome to Oregon . We are on the south side of Eugene just off the freeway. Would love to say hi if you have time for a quick stop. I fully enjoyed my test drive of the Turbo and looking forward to getting my 4S.

Portland is my wife and my favourite US city, and we love Powels! They have a separate building that has technical books if you haven't been. We'll have to make it back to the ACE Hotel!

Tesla and Porsche owner here. Love the trip and updates Don. Thank you for sharing. With all these EV road trips taking place (although yours is by far the most exciting to me), one must plan for a road trip. Wish I could take off 6 weeks to trek through Canada, alas, I don't think that will be possible for awhile. However, I am determined to spend a couple of weeks on the road going somewhere.....

@louv question now that you are in the US have any of the 350kw chargers hit that? what's been your peak state of charge, also regarding the Electrify America chargers are all the cables short like that or is it hit or miss, im curious because I was informed of this article.
Where they outline there are 4 different companies installing these.

I was wondering if this was a regional thing or an across the board thing.

Thanks for your input in this.

Thank you Oregon! A nice Portland you’ve got there. Jackie and I visited a train museum, had poké, and listened to some live jazz. And walked. Lots.

Today I saw Jill and Andrew for breakfast. Then was interviewed by a local independent radio station. I’ll share a link to that once it is produced and posted.

Now headed south towards California.

New Charging Best: 194kW

The reach of the cables is dependent on which installation design they used.

Let me be clear, I’ve always been able to charge. I just might have to park “funny” sometimes.

To get to peak charge rates (over 200kW) you need to be in a very particular zone. SoC below 25% and Battery temperature above 77°F.

...and once outside those zones, it drops off to a mere 150, 100, then 60 kW.

Hi Don...I love this thread. Thank you. It helps to live vicariously as I wait for my 4S (May 8 supposedly).

Question...I'm curious as to what you are going to do with your winter tires as you hit the southern states? If I was a Porsche rep, I'd offer to get you your all-season/summer wheels/tires shipped from Maine and have them swapped in a California or Arizona dealer. That way you can ride the remaining 6-7k miles on non-winter tires.

Hi Don
Your trips looking great so far and it’s great we are along for the ride

I wondered if you have had a chance to really test innodrive/ACC and share your thoughts?
I know when I asked a week ago you hadn’t had a chance

Its the one thing that I keep changing on my build and I have to make a final decision in the next 3 weeks so wanted to hear your thoughts especially as you are doing lots of driving

cheers pal and enjoy as we all certainly are
