Has anybody tried taking their EV to a KOA and charging? What about a Taycan? Can it be done and what would I need to do it? Might be a solution to camping out west.

It should work. The 50Amp plug provided with the portable charger is the type typically found in campgrounds. I think the charging rate would then be 9.6kW (i.e. a 10.5 hour full recharge)

Yes, campgrounds use the NEMA 14-50 outlet, which is the standard plug for the Porsche mobile EVSE. The optional plugs are for other types of high-amp outlets.

Fantastic, I just need to measure the back and see if I can put a memory foam mattress in the back seat folded down and I am off.
Thanks

A twin sized mattress will just fit. The trunk right behind the seats is about 3 inches too narrow, but carving an inch and a half off each side of the mattress shouldn't be too difficult.

I believe this will fit. I used to use it in my BMW SUV. I haven't fit it to my Taycan yet.

One possible issue, the forward edge will overhang the folded-down rear seats. I solved this problem by adding a thin piece of plywood under the forward section of mattress to provide support.

what about doing something straightforward like pitching a tent next to the Taycan and blowing up an air mattress :)

I found an ev hotel and it says it has a

Tesla Dest.Charger 20.00kW

Tesla Destination Chargers are just normal AC chargers. If it’s 22Kw then you will charge at 11Kw in the Taycan as your onboard charger is limited to 11Kw.

It will if you buy a converter (about $350) and they don’t restrict third parties from using the charger. Seems that is a setting for each individual charger

Really? From Tesla website. Tesla destination chargers will be indicated by either a white or red sign. Ones with a red sign can only be used by a Tesla whereas a charger marked by a white sign is open to all EV owners to use and is not dedicated to Tesla owners.

Both are type 2 and are just normal AC chargers. I’d assume both to work on any ev with type 2

There are two issues:
- Plug your car into a Tesla charger. Tesla has their own type of connector, so you need the adapter.
- Once plugged in, will it give you the juice? That is where you need to plug into a "white sign" one as you mentioned.

Edit: seems I am wrong on the first issue.
