That 2 speed gear box….

Given that its the lightest vehicle in that line-up, I dont really understand that. They all beat the Taycan in the brake test![]()
Carwow did a 10.3s standing 1/4 mile in a Turbo S sedan on the same track (and a 10.9 in a Turbo).Would have been nice to see a Turbo S square off.
Without launch mode Taycans are not as impressive. This shows with the rolling races too. That has been my only big disappointment with Taycan drivetrain design - why lock away the top end of power behind a launch mode only for drag races?!? If I wanted power only for drag racing I would have gotten a Plaid Model S, which leaves even Turbo S in Launch mode in the dust (for half the price too). This is also the reason why I bought a Taycan Turbo and not Turbo S - the only spec difference in power is in Launch Mode, for which I have zero use.Carwow did a 10.3s standing 1/4 mile in a Turbo S sedan on the same track (and a 10.9 in a Turbo).
The Taycan is known to have a longer breaking distance than some other Porsches.Given that its the lightest vehicle in that line-up, I dont really understand that.
Agree that it's disappointing that the extra power can't be called on at other times (e.g. using the centre button that all other models have on the sport chrono wheel), but <0.2s slower without LC for the Turbo CT is good enough for me to not bother with the faff of LC.Without launch mode Taycans are not as impressive.
Yes, very surprising.Given that its the lightest vehicle in that line-up, I dont really understand that.
Makes sense. My comment is related to the other vehicles in the video. The Taycan is known to have a longer breaking distance than some other Porsches.
I was at PECLA and when we entered turns in a Taycan, they told us we had to start breaking earlier than the Porsche 718 GT 4RS we were driving. However, the Taycan braking distance was better than a 718 GT4.
I guess I, too, was surprised the Taycan didn't outbreak the others by a good margin. At the same time, it seems it was 1 test? With an unclear tire situation? Even track surface alone could explain the differences. And - gimme a break - "on my mark, brake!" as the test methodology?Makes sense. My comment is related to the other vehicles in the video.
I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that they just used stock tires which come with the car. Taycans may not come with the absolute best tires. Since I picked my car up in the winter, I drove with GoodYear UltraGrip gen1's on the car for the first couple of months. In the spring I put on the original Continental ProContact all seasons and found the car noticeably less sure-footed in the wet than the GoodYear winter tire. I don't have quantifiable data yet, but will try and do a max stop test in the wet, using the same same spot before and after I swap in the winters, note max G the car records on both - still not fully scientific, but should give me some idea which tire grips better.IME doing drag races without telling people which tyres are on the car is leaving out the most relevant data of all.
