Did some recording on the track with the help of a transducer mounted on the rear motor/trans and mic in the front (for tires). What do you think, annoying, stimulating? The usual track vids with EVs are just wind noises and the exhausts of the ICE cars nearby you so I thought I'd try to spice things up a bit. Of course, with a transducer, I can't actually hear these noises in the car without headphones hooked up to the mixer (I tried that for the first session while trying to get the sound balance sorted out but wasn't liking it). The USB input also isn't compatible with an aux in, otherwise it'd be an alternative to sport sound.

Nice work. The unamplified natural sounds are plenty enough for me (to my surprise, even when the motor/transmission sounds were drowned out on a skid pan being thoroughly hosed), though I'd rather have your amplified natural sounds than any artificial ones. ESS is reminiscent of being inside a medical scanner, the amplified natural sound is more "lie back, open wide, here comes the drill...", so neither enhance my driving experience 😁

Cool! As someone who can hear up in to 20kHz... too much high-frequency content for me.

But, the shifts sound really cool! I wonder if just doing some kind of transform (fancier than just a low-pass, maybe something that shifts the high frequencies lower) could give a "real" yet more pleasing sound that's at least derivative of the actual live/real motor sound. (i.e. like ICE exhausts are shaped for sound optimization)

Why introduce fake noise? the silence of EVs is IMHO great.
I love the near silence of the car, the "natural" electric motor sounds as the car ramps up from a stop are fine for me.

Admidedly, it's at an annoying frequency, but further proof that EVs aren't silent. I would like to see a future where manufacturers tune what you hear out of the natural sounds of the motor... so, like a sport exhaust, your sport option is a different case with chambers and resonators that tune what you hear coming off the motor. I was on a panel on EVs a while back when Harley first launched the Livewire and they were doing something along those lines.

Sounds a bit better than your first/previous post on this topic, @bsclywilly - hearing these at sustained speeds/0 acceleration would be very tiring. (In fact, I wonder how much of this my dog can hear riding in the back of the car 😬..)

Very clean laps :)👍

Very cool. Would love to be able to tune that frequency down a bit (well, maybe a lot) and pump it through the sound system.

I love it. Great job. Really deep into Andretti on that first lap ;-)

It will be interesting what sort of sounds future EV sports cars are going to have. I can't imagine they'll be silent, but on the other hand, I think the real motor and gear sounds are not for everyone.. Some combination of natural motor sounds with electric sport sounds during accel/decel. would be great. Make it volume adjustable would be a bonus, rather than on/off.

Here's a couple of other examples:

GT4e-performance

And the Audi S1 Hoonitron:

👍 for noticing.

The GT4 e-Performance sounded very menacing up close; on Sat, when the factory racers were lapping, it seemed to be the second fastest on the slightly damp track - no doubt the LMs were taking it a bit easy, and whoever was driving the 911r rs was possessed. (Joerg Bergmeister?)

I, too, have noticed your different lines around T2, and was going to try them out (in Forza Motorsport, of course).

Oh, that was not intentional on the first lap (and third lap, I think). Brakes were not so consistent that day because of some slight fluid boiling. It seems I’ll have to do a brake bleed at least every 4 track days or so. However my intended line is a double apex V shaped vs some who keep right on braking and single apex the second curb (like the Miata near the end if I recall, although he may have just missed it too).

This sound would probably be better on the track than the synthesized sport noise Porsche sells, sans the higher frequencies whine perhaps. There should be an ability to turn it on or off though, since while on a track I think it would be useful, on daily commute or cruising on long trips it silence is golden.

Can't imagine what your tires look like at session end!
