I may do this if standard is too awful!
Since you know what to expect, i’d say that it’s ok.
I’ve been driving dealer’s vehicle with standard hifi and it was better than Bose in my Koleos even there are more room in Koleos.
Or, maybe i’ve been impressed because of Taycan :giggle:
I took Bose based on dealer’s recommendation, and i couldn’t say/explain why/how/if it’s better.
But i can hear Gilmour’s fingers at accoustic guitar on live concert…

In this scenario I'd make a few enquiries with car audio specialists for a quote.

If that's a few thousand dollars, that's exactly what I'd choose, while also asking Porsche for some kind of compo where Bose is not available/threaten to cancel my order to see if they'll discount.

The money saved goes into the aftermarket sound system.

The Burmester is obscenely priced and just not worth it.

A pittance compared to their home audio :)

Crikey!

Tbh I've never heard of the brand and I'm reasonably clued up on all the high end brands.

I also find it telling that Google's top suggested searches for "Burmester" are "Burmester audio mercedes" and "Burmester vs bose" - basically people have only heard of the brand from car audio.

High end HiFi is a small, almost entirely fashion, market IMO.
Burmester has no UK importer afaik so no marketing in the English speaking world, so I am not surprised an English search only brings up english discussion of car audio.

In some markets it has the highest reputation.

It is all about creating an image so people feel comfortable with the expense. When I lived in France a lot of the brands that were fashionable there were not here in the UK and vice versa.

Edit

I always fancied one of these

Exactly.
It's all about marketing and that's why they are getting such a large piece of cake.
As an old saying: we are all throwing 50% of marketing money away, but no one knows which 50% :giggle:

That's my industry and the most amusing thing about that Wanamaker quote from over 100 years ago is it's even more relevant today - and that's with digital measurement.

It is true though that Burmester has no real brand awareness in the UK. I presume it's not a market of interest for them.

Burmester sound system in Porsche has no parts made by them, the speakers and amplifier are made by ASK.
Its just higher quality hardware, that's why it sounds better than Bose.
Probably Burmester got involved in tunning.

An aftermarket audio system would sound better for half cost.

Probably Burmester got involved in tunning.
A friend of mine who designs high end loudspeaker drive units for several clients was involved in tuning a car audio system for one expensive car as a subcontractor for his client high end HiFi manufacturers whose name was on the car system.

A lot
High fidelity audio in a car is ridiculous anyway.
Road noise, wind noise, traffic noise, city noise, passenger noise...all to disturb your $5000+ experience.
It's also not the best place to fully enjoy the stereoscopic experience cuz you're in the wrong spot, period.
You're driving more time than standing still charging and listening to music.
Besides, driving needs focus and you can't do both: enjoying music and paying attention to your driving 100%...

So....not worth the money imho.
I have Bose though, sorry.

If you're an audio lover you just go home and enjoy your HiFi home stereo in perfect conditions, like it's ment to be.

I went with the base system to get more trunk height. This was well before the demise of Bose.

Don't forget that speccing Burmester force you more or less to go insaluted glass route.

I got both on my 4S, it's great but if you are short on cash there's other options that are much more worth it (RWS comes in mind)
