That looks amazing - do tell us what it was like.
Your post sent me to the plans for my own upcoming road trip down to the Black Forest, to see if I could squeeze Clervaux in -- but sadly we have a concert in Köln and a ballet in Baden-Baden with not enough time in between to pop over to Luxembourg. Next trip! (At least by taking the direct route we will be able to visit that shiny new Porsche Charging Lounge ...)
Exact, en route from Clervaux to Baden-Baden, the plan is to stop at the Porsche Charging Lounge to top up the battery. :):)

Day 10: Zell-am-See (Austria) -> Salzburg (Austria)

Screenshot 2023-09-12 at 08.16.27.png

Our hotel has an early check-out limit of 10:00 (10am) so we head down to the underground car park – and pack up our fully charged car.

As it's a lovely morning – we take a walk alongside the calm lake – that this town gets its name from.

53181847001_208535e168_o.jpg

The town has installed points-of-interest all around the place. We are much more interested in the actual points-of-interests themselves – rather than what they are pointing out – because they are designed by Porsche Design!

They are NFC enabled – so we open up a NFC reading app and tap our phone on the POI – which brings up a URL data packet:

https://m.zellamsee-kaprun.com/rxfphitkb7t5

We wonder how often it gets used ?

53182347363_45f37521a0_c.jpg

As we got a full destination charge overnight – we don't need to go to our planned IONITY stop today – meaning we can avoid the motorway route to Salzburg and instead take the more scenic B311.

53181845056_6ef57e0541_o.jpg

Which takes us briefly into Germany.

53181844401_9165204fef_o.jpg

And back out again to Austria.

53182035369_2e5924e837_o.jpg

As we are not monitoring energy usage today – we decide to use Apple Maps to route us to a nearby service station for some supplies.

It picks a suspiciously rural route to what is a motorway stop – but hey – maybe it knows what it's doing!

53182345673_4fd63e22ae_o.jpg

No – it doesn't! It has routed us to a locked gate at the rear of the station. Thank's a bunch Apple Maps!

We switch over to PCM routing which comfortably gets us in by the proper entrance.

53182345638_889f46d6f7_o.jpg

Afterwards, we turn off into Salzburg.

Heading into a car park that is built out of an old WW2 air-raid shelter carved out of the rock.

Parking up for the night – arriving with 82% state-of-charge in our main battery.

53182290670_a7bd7dfd97_o.jpg

Walking through the mountain tunnels to our nearby hotel.

53181254582_19fb2b65d7_o.jpg

We visit Salzburg every year – to remember our wedding here back in 2005. Tonight we walk through the old town.

To a nearby beer garden for some Austrian Goulash and a few too many beers!

Forgot to share these - TWO Dakar 911's at my dealership in Houston one with that pricey livery, along with other eye candy
If I was ordering one of those – not sure how I'd pick a number! Though the one we saw in Switzerland had 911 on the side – which guess is a reasonable default.

Day 11: Salzburg (Austria) -> Bratislava (Slovakia)

Map 11.png

At 11:00 (11am) we check out of our hotel room.

53183055490_ca8e680314_o.jpg

And walk through the tunnels to our parked car.

We head east out of the city and onto the motorway network.

While we're heading away from Dublin – technically, we're starting our journey home – this time taking a loop via Bratislava and Prague – rather than going more directly via Germany.

53183048855_454ee0a811_o.jpg

We pull into our first scheduled stop – at IONITY Eberstalzell– with a little more charge than is ideal – but it is still optimum for today's route.

This is the first public charge we've had in over a week.

There are a large number of chargers here – IONITY, Tesla and Alpitronic hyperchargers.

As we continue eastwards, we start to pick up signs for Slovakia.

53182013527_d2a9074511_o.jpg

Stopping in for our last charge in Austria at IONITY Göttlesbrunn – where we get a free vend of electricity for some reason.

Shortly afterwards we cross into Slovakia.

53182013532_03d47631b5_o.jpg

And over the Danube – the second longest river in Europe.

53182607756_2841ed027b_o.jpg

And park up in our hotel car park.

An easy day overall – and a reminder – after all the ascents, descents and sharp turns of the alps – that this is also a brilliant motorway car.

Fantastic report as always Damien. I've only once experienced the free vend once in Ireland at the Ionity Kill South site!

Agreed. In my experience I drove around Scottish highlands, Inverness to Bristol than back to Dublin this summer. It is a great motorway car overall and I did good sleep one night in the car at Carlisle. I am 5'11" without any problem.:)

Appreciate the share during your time.

Day 9: Mountain passes near Zell-am-See (Austria)

Map 9.png

Today marks the half-way point of this road-trip and is a kind-of rest day for us. We decide – as it's only 20 minutes away – to spend it at the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse.

We've been there many times – but as part of the purpose of this trip is to experience the Turbo S difference – it will still be different!

We start the day with the longest range we've ever seen reported by our car on 21" summer tyres.

53178618632_f22239311d_o.jpg

And head through forested sections up to the start of the road.

53179648880_92ee38e174_o.jpg

Where we pay a reduced toll of €32 due to having an electric vehicle.

53179709838_0490881f5e_o.jpg

We knew – as it is a Sunday and another sunny day – that it would be busy. However, it was so busy – the bikers were causing traffic jams – and struggled to find parking spots themselves!

Still it is a very enjoyable set of roads to drive.

53179709843_bee1aa1970_o.jpg

And if you time things right – you can still find quiet moments – where the twists and turns open out in front of you.

Despite the traffic – we think today is the day we experienced the Turbo S difference over our 4S.

The ability for the car to drop anchor and slow down coming into a sharp corner, the sheer explosive acceleration on exiting, kept flat by PDCC in-between. Even the electric sport sound added to the experience here – never knew it has a kind of "rev matching blip" in Sport Plus mode when under hard deceleration!

We could comfortably keep up with bikers pushing it – and plenty were!

53179648460_d83a1ddc43_o.jpg

53178616472_923fddf147_o.jpg

Passing a rare 911 Sports Classic.

53179405199_de6eb1fa73_o.jpg

Plugging in for a free charge while eating some ice-cream! We don't need to – plenty of range today – but one of our rules on road-trips is to take on power when we're stopped – especially if its complementary.

Its been a week now since we've paid for any energy – which is really amazing – all these adventures since Baden-Baden – and the entire Switzerland portion has been powered by gifted electricity.

We drive up to the glacier at the top – which seems to be getting smaller each time we're here.

As we're stopping here for lunch – we plug in – at 2350 meters – for what we think is our highest ever charge. Power is supplied at reasonable 11 kW.

Plenty of Porsche's today – with Shark Blue looking the most popular – at least among the modern 911s.

53179210916_9bc670cd8f_o.jpg

53179702490_c4746b7335_o.jpg

As it's getting to the afternoon – and we've spent about five hours here – we start our descent back down to Zell-am-See.

We appreciated our carbon ceramic braking system on the long way down – seeing many signs asking: "check your brakes" – and being behind a Hungarian Ford Transit fan suffering badly from brake fade – with their hazards on and the smell of fire 🔥.

53178646132_5cbeca5050_o.jpg

Passing Porsche Design as we turn into our hotel.

53178616462_c3743aeee8_o.jpg

And plug back in for a free top-up.

Hope u enjoyed Großglockner! This is actually not far away from my home is. I was there a week ago at the Porsche F.A.T Mankei restaurant with a Porsche event. Have u noticed that u had more battary charge after coming down compared to when u started? (This was the case with me)

Day 12: Bratislava (Slovakia) -> Prague (Czechia)

Map 12.png

We leave our hotel in Bratislava around midday and head in a north westwards direction – almost directly pointing for Dublin. There is no avoiding that we're on the homeward leg now!

53186775023_69a64121a8_o.jpg

Shortly after leaving the city behind us – we cross over into the Czech Republic for the very first time.

53186403241_a8c8c0be32_o.jpg

As we didn't get a destination charge last night – we pull into a newish looking IONITY station – to top up our battery for the motorway haul to Prague.

Plug and charge is so handy – especially in countries where you can't read the language – we don't even need to look at the screen on the charger.

Though – if we did – the combination of being able to change language – and the familiar IONITY charging process – would have presented no problems either way.

We pass a truck carrying Fiat 500s!

53186403231_61a2b6308d_o.jpg

Speaking of trucks – there are 10s of kilometres of them in a traffic jam heading the other direction. If we were heading for Slovakia – we'd be seriously delayed in these tailbacks.

53185685467_cd55148f15_o.jpg

It's easy driving here – with disciplined motorway behaviour – and most traffic staying about 10% above the posted speed limits.

53186768558_d632be79f8_o.jpg

As we approach Prague – the capital of the Czech Republic – we stop in for our second and final charge today – setting us up well for tomorrow.

Again, the IONITY station is quiet and it starts easily giving us the full 265 kW our car can accept.

And it's – yet another – free vend – thank you IONITY!

It is then a short 20 km into the city centre – with its wide boulevards.

53185685462_01108c477e_o.jpg

Snarled by evening rush hour traffic.

53186597295_f22f515bb5_o.jpg

Eventually finding our way to our hotel and pulling up outside. With such a busy street – we're grateful that the hotel has managed to "reserve" some space with good use of cones.

We can hear "Ireland" mentioned by a few passing pedestrians – so the reg number is peaking interest!

This is one of the few occasions where we actually valued valet parking.

And head into the hotel to check-in.

Before heading out later for some Czech food and beers.

For sure – and I think all the more impressive is that the PCM calculates the predicted re-gen so accurately.

Day 13: Prague (Czechia) -> Leipzig (Germany)

Map 13.png

We checkout at noon to our waiting car from the valet.

53187321223_965d4696bd_o.jpg

And head into the winding cobbled streets of Prague.

53187149840_4df60fce17_o.jpg

53187320673_44d9102052_o.jpg

Crossing over the Vltava.

53187149795_0d6f70a6ef_o.jpg

Onto the motorway – continuing to head in a north-west direction towards Dublin. Today is the coolest and most overcast of this trip so far.

53186235877_46ba142922_o.jpg

We cross into Germany – hardly noticing the border.

53186951466_b858f14fbd_o.jpg

The autobahn is quiet here and we reach consistent high-speeds that help greatly with our progress.

We pass through the Glashütte region – famous for it's watch making – A. Lange & Söhne probably being the most famous and prestigious.

53187320023_68d8eaaa2a_o.jpg

We start to pick up signs for Leipzig – our destination for today.

53187149125_096df72eed_o.jpg

Stopping off for today's only charge – and some service station currywurst. Taking on a little more energy than ABRP suggests to account for the increased speeds of the autobahn.

53187017739_03c7e8ec54_o.jpg

The Australian made chargers have an interesting sticker on them – though this is really not a consideration for anyone using Plug & Charge.

Arriving in central Leipzig in early afternoon. It has been nearly twenty years since we were last in this city.

53187016509_d08919c0e0_o.jpg

We pull in at our hotel for the final valet parking of this road-trip. A good bit calmer than yesterday in Prague!

The only charging queue of the entire road trip is our last one: IONITY Stafford.

IMG_1459.jpeg
There hasn’t been an Ionity station on any trip I have taken yet but both Stafford and Gretna Green which are on my route to family in Scotland are rumoured to be over subscribed.
