Day 14: Umeå (Sweden) -> Gävle (Sweden)

The length of this road-trip catching up with us – we checked out of our hotel at 10.30 – late for us – and unplugged our car from its destination charger – with battery level at 100%. This at least means we can remove our first charging stop from our plan.

When we inputted tonights hotel – as we are now in range of IONITY's – the Porsche Charging Planner kicked in and made some sensible choices – in this case correctly picking a three stop strategy. It's good to get back to correct battery management. Out on the road – as it saw our consumption was lower than yesterday it removed one of the IONITY stops as unnecessary.

This wasn't a particularly interesting day – its was 2+1 style motorways along the E4 the entire way. Sometimes on road trips you just need to cover ground.

Both IONITY charging sessions went very smoothly – arriving with a pre-heated battery and getting well over 200 kW from the start.

We arrived at our hotel in Gävle – and with their own car park full – pulled into a nearby public one – 100 meters away – that happened to have 22 kW Mer destination charging in them for a final top up for tomorrow.

Got that Scandinavian look now!
Heck, yesterday I drove 30 miles to visit my in-laws and my car looks basically the same. When it comes to the dirt per entertainment ratio you have me beat, … by a mile ;)

Love the trip report!

Damaged Wiper Blade

Somewhere along the trip we damaged our drivers side – for us on the right – wiper blade rubber. Probably due to arctic temperatures – and us being idiots – and not keeping the rubber away from the windscreen overnight like most other people around here!

Anyways, we'll be passing Porsche Centre Örebro today so might drop in on the chance the parts department might have something suitable in stock.

Anyone know are the wiper blades different for right-hand drive vehicles?

Here is the part markings on my blade when I remove it:

Evergreen trip reports

We're not sure if its been noticed, but we attempt to write these trip reports in as "evergreen" a manner as possible. Our goal is to make them relevant for anyone reading them for the next few years at least. That is why we title posts as "Day X" rather than "Wednesday" or "Feb 23, 2022".

We also try and not mention things that might be very localised or time sensitive – and again reduce the usefulness of the report in the future. A good example of this is the pandemic.

However, we're not oblivious to what's going on in the world[1] and just want to acknowledge the distressing news we all awake to today – Feb 24, 2022 – in regards to the events in Ukraine.

Compared to it – a road trip seems very frivolous. However, this forum is great for staying focused on its topic – the Porsche Taycan – and we'll continue our trip and reporting on it as we have been doing.

We're all from very different parts of the world, speak many different languages and have very different backgrounds and cultures. Coming together over a shared interest can only be a positive thing.

Thank you all and acknowledgments to the @Administrator for running a good show.

===============================

[1] One very effective feature of the PCM is the online streaming radio service – which is awesome when you're abroad – away from your usual FM or DAB stations. It is not a very talked about feature, but it is really good.

Turns out wipers are dependent on which side of the car the steering wheel is. Thank you Porsche Centre Örebro for digging through the parts bin to check!

Lowest temp – and it never got warmer than -10C.

I'm considering ordering the passenger-side display for my own use as driver -- to have an extra monitor when driving alone (not just for my passenger). Do you find yourself ever looking at the passenger display when you are driving, and do you ever find it convenient to have another display as a driver?

Day 15: Gävle (Sweden) -> Oslo (Norway)

Porsche Taycan Taycan To The Arctic Circle Road Trip 2022 Screenshot 2022-02-24 at 05.58.35

Another transit day today, as we make our way back to Oslo in Norway, completing our "loop" of a part of Scandinavia. We left our hotel in Gävle with a full destination charge, meaning the PCM had us on a two IONITY stop route today. It was warmer this morning in Gävle then it is back home in Dublin!

Meaning the snow on the streets and pavements is melting strongly, leaving a messy slush everywhere.

The roads are at this point free of snow and ice – meaning they are "well defined" enough for assistance systems to go back on.

Reaching our first IONITY stop with ease and a well prepared battery.

Keeping up-to-date on the breaking news about the invasion of Ukraine by listening to the BBC World Service via PCM Streaming Radio feature. Allowing control of the audio and radio finding process on the passenger display without interrupting the drivers navigation display being a feature we both like.

At our next and last IONITY stop at Karlstad – it is always interesting to see how warm the battery can get with > 250 kW charging.

Until we reach Norway.

And glide into Oslo as darkness falls.

You know you are back in Norway when you see rows of destination chargers – most parking spaces on the level we parked on had them.

I'm considering ordering the passenger-side display for my own use as driver -- to have an extra monitor when driving alone (not just for my passenger). Do you find yourself ever looking at the passenger display when you are driving, and do you ever find it convenient to have another display as a driver?
When there is nobody sitting on the passenger seat – the passenger display won't be active – it will either turn off or just show the Taycan logo (its a settable option).

When I am driving, I do not use the passenger display – it feels too far away – and I've enough screens in the main PCM + cockpit display.

We find the passenger display genuinely useful – for on the move route adjustments, audio/apple music selections and customising navigation display for different requirements than the driver.

We feel it really is a passenger orientated option only.
