Assuming your dog has their EU pet passport then to go to the UK you need to get a worming tablet given to it by a vet and have that noted in the passport 24-120 hours before arrival in the UK. They check this at Pet Check in in Calais which is before main check in. On the way back you just need to show the passport at the Folkestone Pet Check in, right in front of the Tesla chargers, after main check in. You also need to add the dog to the booking in advance.

Others will have to tell you about what to do with a dog in Kent, I don't know the area. Have fun!

Not at all, you could be in and out in a minute unless there’s a queue. They check the passport is up to date, worming tablet marked etc., then you scan the chip and they check it matches the passport. Once that’s done they give you a pet sticker for the windscreen and you’re off.

It’s a lot quicker than the human passport process. We just took a bit more time because the car was charging, went to the loo, walked the dog and so on.

We left our home in Dublin in the evening – after finishing up work – at around 18:00 for the short trip down the east coast of Ireland to get closer to Rosslare Europort in Country Wexford for an early tomorrow crossing.

Strangely, the port is owned and operated by the government train company Irish Rail.

Normally, we travel to Europe via Dublin Port but on this trip we're interested in trying out alternative routes.

Confident of getting a destination charge at our hotel we didn't stop in at IONITY Gorey, instead arriving at our hotel at around 19:45.

It's nice that the first destination charge of the trip was both free for hotel guests and delivered power at a solid 22 kW.

We're up for an early start tomorrow to catch the ferry to the United Kingdom.

Waking early at 05:30 to check-out of our hotel, we walked out to our fully charged car for the short 23 km drive to the port. Like our last trip we're heading to mainland Europe via the so called "land-bridge" option by routing through the United Kingdom.

The port is relatively small and simple to negotiate – we were quickly through check-in procedures and in the queue to board.

The ferry does not have any on-board chargers – and given the relatively short three and a half hours journey time – that is understandable.

We dock into the Port of Fishguard in Wales on-time and with minimal checks for passenger car traffic between Ireland and the United Kingdom, we were soon heading towards Bristol on the M4.

The weather today is glorious, with a strong sun in the sky, little wind and a consistent 9 celsius air temperature.

A full day's driving in the land of miles per hour and yards – a measurement system we've always found difficult to adjust to! Therefore, we prefer to leave our car in metric and do the conversions in my head – rather then change the units of the car.

We enjoyed following this Lamborghini for a few kilometres and marvelled at its ability to stick rigidly to the 50 mph speed limit that was in place.

Our "worst-case" charging planning for today had us doing four stops – however, the car was performing brilliantly and we quickly reverted to a two stop strategy. With the last charge to handle tomorrow's channel crossing as we won't get a destination charge at our overnight hotel tonight.

The first charge was at IONITY Chippenham, which was busy but we arrived to one free pedestal.

We arrived with 22% state of charge and a battery temperature of 42C – with battery saving feature enabled – we started to draw 196 kW of power. However, that fell – surprisingly quickly – to around 120 kW and it stayed there until the pack hit 60% when it dropped to just below 100 kW.

This is slower then we expected – especially as we were not planning on eating anything at the services here – and were just waiting around for the charge and taking a rest. For these "transit days" we're going to switch back to "fast charging" mode.

We push on eastwards – and a few hours later – we're approaching the M25 – the ring-road around London.

We stop for a comfort break and a quick bite to eat at Cobham services.

As darkness falls, we head towards the M26 and M20 – in relatively light traffic – stopping at our second and final charging station at IONITY Maidstone. We even end up using the same charging pedestal as the last time we were here.

With "battery-saving" mode now off, the car started to draw 265 kW of power and we added 58.9 kWh of energy in just 17 minutes.

Looking at the screen of the VW ID.3 beside us, I couldn't but notice it had pulled 18 kWh over 27 minutes as we were finishing up. It's easy to get used to the high-speed charging rate of the 800V architecture.

Our car looking slightly less clean then it did when we left Dublin yesterday. The roads in Wales were particularly dusty today.

We had a lovely drink and pizza the last time we were here – and grab the same again.

The Chunnel looks very busy tomorrow – with all crossings booked out a few months ago. We don't have a flexiplus ticket this time – so we have to aim for a specific crossing and enter a longer queue.

The car performed great today – and its consumption is pretty much at 4S territory – delighted with that – what a start!

If the Chunnel is busy tomorrow and there are delays, remember there are plenty of Tesla chargers that you can top up on while waiting. They work a treat if you have the 150 kW option.

Nice start of what promises to be a magic trip.

Our hotel has breakfast included in its rates so we grab what turns out to be a simple but wholesome start to our day – walking out to our car just before 08:30.

At breakfast, we had tried to set the Porsche Vehicle Tracking Plus (PVTS+) into transport mode for the next few hours – to prevent a false alarm being triggered while in the Chunnel. It refused to take the remote command – returning a "car not found" error.

So we knew we might have some wrangling with the app later to get it set – or worse case, ring Porsche Tracking Service to do it from their end.

We pack our luggage in – sit into the car and disaster: the car refuses to start.

We haven't seen this one before. The dashboard screen behind the wheel – is showing a frozen image of the "shutting down" image.

No other screen is showing anything else. No amount of pressing – or holding down the – "start/power" button does anything. We lock/unlock the car – the usual reset stuff – nothing worked.

This is looking like the reason that remote commands weren't getting acknowledged.

Timing couldn't have been worse as we were on a tight schedule with the Chunnel. We had a feeling that perhaps a 12-volt reset might do the trick – but we didn't have any socket wrench with us to perform it.

This has the potential to throw our plans majorly off course.

We were just on the verge of ringing Porsche Breakdown Service – when – without warning and without us doing anything – all the screens came alive – like a regular startup dequence.

The car was back to normal. WTF!

And we were away. No clue what was the cause – and we hope we won't see a repeat. These types of glitches can make Taycan ownership more fraught then it needs to be.

The drive between our hotel and the Chunnel is only a few kilometres.

It didn't appear to be particularly busy at check-in and we quickly have our 10:36 train confirmed and a boarding card.

It is only then – we start to realise that there are delays and our train is re-scheduled to depart 30 mins later then planned. To kill time, we take a look around the terminal and admire the pet's in the dedicated walking area.

When it got closer to the re-scheduled time – it got pushed out again – and this became a bit of a theme – frequent small bumps – until it was midday when we finally get to board.

We used this time to retry setting the PVTS+ tracker – and this time it works quickly first attempt.

The overall delay wasn't too bad – just would have been better if it came in one big re-schedule – rather then the frequent updates. We were going to be 1.5 hrs behind schedule and of course lose an additional hour when clocks go forward for Central European Time.

We have booked a "high" car so as to get into a single deck train carriage – that gives much more space for the wide Taycan – without risk of curbing the wheels. So it's always good to see that you are driving past the smaller double-decker carriages.

We drive off the train – and with no further police checks required – straight onto the French motorway network.

The day is just as nice here as it was in the UK. It was good to get back to familiar km/h and metric signs. Not many were taking notice of this warning on the motorway!

After about forty-five mins A16 we crossed the seamless border into Belgium.

We have our first planned charging stop just inside Belgium at IONITY Veurne – which from @Throb reports here – we knew we'd have no issues. The truck stop shop has very well maintained toilet facilities and snacks to keep us humans as happy as the car is charging!

We've a dinner appointment tonight – so we are eager to keep to our schedule and press on – hitting frequent traffic jams along the route – typical of this area and a window into the high density of the Benelux region.

We were not too worried as each traffic jam was accurately predicted and estimated by the PCM Navigation and had us arriving in time at our hotel.

And soon we were crossing into Netherlands – which looks even more seamless then the earlier border into Belgium. For a trip like this – the Schengen Agreement makes it so easy.

We had one final quick charge to do – just as a safety in-case we don't get a destination charge tonight. The charge starts delivering 244 kW immediately – despite us arriving with 23% state of charge.

We only need to get to 50% – and IONITY puts in 28 kWh in only eight minutes. With such reliable charging infrastructure with IONITY – stops like these are magic.

We push on to our hotel – arriving within five minutes of the PCM Navigations estimate – despite 2 charging stops and lots of traffic jams – that it gave us coming off the train in France.

And quickly find a parking spot in the hotel underground car-park and extract our luggage.

Note: The figures today was expected – we used relatively high consumption waiting at the Chunnel – running air conditioning for hours while stationary and inching forward in queues. When we boarded the train – our consumption was 39 kWh/100km – and dropped steadily to the 25kWh average you see – but in reality the car is delivering very efficient motorway cruising.

It might be the Porsche Vehicle Tracking Plus causing problem to start the car. Hope this is the case.

Nice reports. A tip for future trips / other travelers: I have recently used a hotel from the same group near Utrecht at De Bilt that has 4 Allego 300 Kw chargers and also 22 Kw chargers on the parking. But no underground parking.

And maybe you could give us a tip: how do you selected your hotels while planning your trip. I have been doing some smaller trips my self and it is not always clear what hotels have their own chargers. And on the other hand do we really need to charge over night. Or is it only a bonus and 30 minute time saver for the next day. Probably more important in colder climates as would be an underground parking for the night.

Personally I use ABPR and Google maps to show me the route to destination and than I start to look for hotels along the way with booking.com and add electric car charger as a filter. However it doesn’t show the type and number of chargers. I look for close by public 22 Kw chargers / 50 Kw chargers.

I haven’t really found a dedicated app or site specifically showing hotels with electric car chargers, optimally also combined with a route planner and the possibility to reserver a charger ( or even better a charge time window / kWh to make it available for more than one car over night)

There is one app called EV Hotels that show some of the hotels.
Not quite sure how good it is but have a look and try.
