Clear XPEL cover the whole car, but I leave out the windows for now. Need to see how the regular heat and sound insulating glass is performing.

I’m making the jump from a 911 Turbo 997.1 manual transmission to a loaded Taycan Turbo. I’ll miss the 911 but, I’ve decided to embrace the future with great anticipation. My Taycan was just offloaded from the Glovis Challenge and should be ready for delivery by month end.

(I just want to say how much I have enjoyed this forum and how informative it is. I also want to thank Don (Louv) for his invaluable contributions to this forum and for his personal insight he shared when we met in f2f at the Beaverton, OR Porsche dealership in February, the day I ordered my Taycan.)

My car was on the Swift Ace that landed in Houston on 08/05 and was offloaded but still nothing. Texted my SA and he said it's still at the port waiting to be released. Supposedly they haven't gotten a single car for a week so not sure what is going on. I'm in no hurry but very anxious to get my hands on the the car.

I saw my car at the dealership but can't take it away tomorrow due to a headlight issue.

Just got word that the delivery time from Baltimore to Cincinnati should be about a week. Siem Cicero due to dock in Baltimore Sept 4, so delivery to dealer should be Sept 11. Of course, I'll be on vacation out of state until Sept 17...

Setting up full Xpel wrap and ceramic on car and wheels, and remote radar/laser install of Escort max 360 ci. Really like the 'storm trooper' black strip along the side skirts, so I'm doing that. Also really like the iPad protective film no-fingerprint idea for the center console, so I'll do that as well. Will tint the driver side windows to match the rears. Carerra white with matching mission E wheels and gloss black brakes, Olea black with dark silver. No badging.

Are you sure the rear windows will come tinted? This was something I studied for some time since I also scheduled a window tint for my 4S for next month. From what I could find, there is a Privacy Glass option outside the US to tint the rear windows that the US configurator doesn't offer. I've yet to see any Taycan pictures in the US where the rear windows are darker from the factory, and in other responses in this forum it was mentioned that the Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass option here was observed in person that the rear windows were not any darker than the front windows.

I took delivery this week of a 4S with insulated glass. No tint on rear windows that I can see. Tinting scheduled for Tuesday...

My dealer could not solve the PDLS error code my car is throwing and they don't work on Saturday. So all I could do was sit in the car, check that the panoramic roof was not scratched or cracked, there was no goop around the tail light and the correct front trim piece was installed for ACC radar.

You are right - must have been the angle of the pic I was looking at. Definitely will increase the tint of the side windows.

Might be a noob question but is Xpel a clear wrap for paint protection? Any other benefit? And would someone provide approx cost for the Taycan?

Yes, I did a clear wrap for paint protection. Price in China might be very different...

XPEL is a brand of paint protection film. Benefits... the main one of course is protection against flying rocks and other actions that would otherwise leave a scratch. I had a 3M PPF installed on the front of my 2009 Acura TSX and after 11 years the paint there still looks solid, no chips. The glossy XPEL PPF also has a top healing coat, so swirls or light scratches that get introduced can come out. XPEL has a matte looking PPF as well (Stealth), which can change the look of your car if you want. I did that on our Model X.

Cost... I've seen from $5k to $7.5k in the US, give or take. The key thing is to have a skilled and experienced installer. The cost may be higher for a more reputable one. A good installer will wrap the edges of the PPF on a full body install so it doesn't look like stickers were slapped on the car. Wrapping the edges also doesn't leave any transition lines for dirt to accumulate on.

You essentially can treat the PPF like you would with paint. For a glossy PPF you can even put on a ceramic coating on top of it to get the hydrophobic benefits of ceramic and make washing your car easier. For waxing, XPEL's site has an FAQ for their PPF product where they mention "be sure the product you are using doesn’t contain Naphtha or Kerosene in concentrations over 5%, and avoid waxes that contain dyes", and then of course they go on to recommend their own products. For washing, I suppose any PH neutral car soap will do just fine... I happen to use Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash soap.
