White X - thank you for your exhaustive discussion on car depreciation and resale alternatives - my only point was dealers do not want expensive used EV’s right now and are building in large margins to protect themselves so selling it yourself may be a better alternative than in the past. For me it was.

Hey everyone, figured I'd post this here in case people are considering trading in their Taycans for something else. While I absolutely love my Taycan turbo s, I'm itching to get a 911. My Taycan was a $210k car 11 months ago when I bought it new. 6,800 miles and it's in mint condition. I was offered $105k as a trade in value -- less than 12 months of ownership and it depreciated 50%!

Curious what others are getting for trade in values. For now I'll be keeping it..
FWIW be careful what you wish for. Once you start driving a 911 you'll notice that virtually all the other dudes driving them are old enough to be your grandpa. Unless you are going to track the car, it's like putting a thoroughbred pedigree horse in a petting zoo.

Has anyone tried to buy their Taycan from the dealer/Porsche Financial at the end of their lease term for actual current/market value instead of the lease residual?

so sad that the car isnt even fully loaded for 221k lol
This is why the point why the demand for these examples is low driving major depreciation.
Major omissions in my view: PDCC, BM Audio, Door Sill and B-Pillar Leather to replace plastic.
Then if someone can spend $200K they would rather have everything they want and not willing to settle for what is a deal for sure at $80k off that someone configured. This is brutal but real.

That’s a wholesale price obviously. Sell it outright for 20% more. I just put in a purchase order for a Targa, I’m next in line but thinking I might as well keep the Taycan for the next 6-7 years. That’s the only way to beat the depreciation curve and let’s be honest, the car is phenomenal and will still be 6-7 years from now. Keep it and buy the 911 toy if you can afford to do so…

This comment about B-pillar hard plastic comes up a lot on this board. What option(s) specifically cover that with leather? Anything other than base standard leather? Or one of those door trim options?

Your comment perfectly illustrates why the high end Taycan depreciate quicker than lower trims. If you are looking for the top trim and willing to drop $200K+ for it, you are probably not looking for a compromise unless you absolutely have no other choice.

Everyone will have a list of options they want, and chances of finding the car with the exact options you want are close to zero, given that Taycan has many millions of possible options combinations (infinite if you could PTS+) while they only produce tens of thousands of them, small percentage of them Turbo S. Given that a lot of options are mutually exclusive (e.g. someone may require red leather, others will not touch a car with red leather), which means buying used is compromising. Even if you somehow find the car that has all the options you want but then some, you probably are not willing to pay any extra for the option, since you are comparing the used car price to a new build in which you skip that option - for example BM Audio, I personally don't care for it, so if I was looking for used, I would not value it at all (i.e. I'd take it for free, but not willing to pay extra), while you consider it a must have (based on your list), so obviously willing to pay more for it. Similarly, if someone wants Mamba Green, they might be willing to compromise and buy some other PTS+ green which is close, but they don't value it at $30K like the original owner. There is no "fully loaded with every option" Taycan, like there are other car brands/models.

You also have to consider the internal competition with the other models of the lineup (Turbo, GTS and 4S). All of them are pretty damn fast for 95% of the buyers (This is a new trend with EVs as they build power/speed very easily)... buying a very well specced 1yo 4S will provide 90% of the Turbo S experience for 60% of the price and will produce the exact same effect on the crowd.

I'm mentioning that because I used to buy 2nd hand Panamera Turbo/TurboS only because of the V8 Twin Turbo but... I was not that attracted with the Taycan Turbo S as the 4S has plenty of performance already.

Absolutely, dealers need to protect their business. They are also very good indicators of how quick your car will sell, if they don't want it, that means it will be hard to sell. I say they, since you typically want to shop the car around, not rely on one dealer's input. If they all want it and want to pay top dollar, that means they are fairly sure the car will sell quick. This means that the logical conclusion may be somewhat counter-intuitive, if dealer is willing to pay a lot of money, sell it yourself and make a quick profit, if dealer doesn't want the car, settle in for a long ride - remember that if they don't want your car, they are probably sitting on inventory already, so you will be competing with them. If the hassle is not worth the risk, shop the car around and sell it to the dealer offering the highest price even if lower than you hoped for. Of course you might get lucky and sell quick for a price you want, but you also might sit on it while it depreciates further (and you pay or lose interest on its value). You could also play the local lottery and win too, then perhaps you keep your car as your new mansion will have plenty of space in the garage ;)

This topic comes up a lot because the plastic is next level bad and I mean cheap looking, a lot of it, and you see it all the time. That is the first thing I noticed on the loaners driving them for many days before making my purchase decisions. There is nothing wrong with nice looking plastic in the areas specifically called inner door sill and B-Pillar as it looks nice in our Cayenne and Macan, but Taycan is really bad, in my view, therefore my comment on a $200k+ build here someone unaware of this situation, will think I am going to have to look at this all the time.

The solution is this option below, usual terrible visualization of it that is totally wrong (see actual look on mine below), since it that also requires Door Sills to be Illuminated for another $870 but you get so much leather to cover 4 door sills that extend deep from the front to back and over the illuminated panels and you get 2 large B-pillars from bottom to about half where the liner ends and since I have Racetex liner that is just perfect PLUS you get to choose at no cost deviated stitching for it. The only downside is potential scrapes, yes you have to be careful, and let the riders know to step over the sills instead of dragging their feet over them, but the leather is very resilient and looks great, and eliminates any rattles from the otherwise large metal clip attached gobbles of plastic.

I absolutely get daily enjoyment out of this option as you see it every time you get in or out and super cool looking at night, especially, with aftermarket LED projectors.

Totally agree. A basic dealer trade-in tactic is a lowball trade in price leveraged against the reduction in net sales tax on the difference in new vs trade values. Unfortunately, the math doesn't lie. If you sell to a private party, make sure you get enough on the increased price to cover the increased sales tax on your new vehicle.
This only applies in states where you get credit for the trade against the purchase price when calculating sales tax. That isn’t the case in CA. ;(

Ok, thanks for posting that, I tracked that down in the configurator. Ok, I’ll have to think about that. It totals up as $3k option bundled with the illuminated door sills, while there’s also the $510 option for just race-Tex on the B-pillars. Bling like fancy door sills is invisible to me, I don’t notice it so I don’t get that much out of having it. I like the idea of silencing rattles, particularly if that’s often a problem.

Does anyone have the race-tex covered B-pillars? Does that seem pleasing and wear resistant?
