Today my car had a dramatic loss of power. Not the kind that has been widely reported, but a weird situation where I could floor the accelerator and barely get any power.

The yellow turtle icon kept flashing on and off.

It is 100F outside today.

Is this any kind of normal behavior, or is something seriously borked?

Almost 6000 happy miles on this thing.

Several weeks ago I had a situation where the turtle icon also flashed on and off. It would only display for an instant, I had to really pay attention to that part of the UI to even see which icon it was. It went away after a few seconds, and I haven't seen it since.

I don't recall any change in how the car drove during that time, but I likely was just cruising on a road, not trying to push things.

that is far from normal, turtle mode should only engage when at an extremely low SOC. take the car in for service

Change the right gauge to display battery temperature.
Your battery might be overheated which results in turtle mode.
If it overheats, it can be an indication of a problem with the cooling system.

Btw did you DC-fast charge before this happened or did you have the car parked under hot sun for a while. These will both result in the battery starting on a high temp, and they would make any problem with the cooling system more profound.

I had something like this happen from the day I picked up my Turbo S. I would floor the accelerator and it would simply lack power. Sometimes the car would jerk forward hesitantly.

It turned out to be a defective solenoid, which prevented the battery from being cooled properly. One indication of the problem was the battery preheat/precool screen said "System Error". If you see that it might be a similar problem.

I did not fast charge. I did have it parked in the sun (101F outside) and enabled the climate control 20 mins before I got into the car. Then drove it home as I usually do, floored.

Interesting. I had this happen to me the same week that I had my AC charger failure. At that point I had acceleration failure similar to Derek’s description. The problem was a faulty valve that prevented cooling during the charging process which caused the AC charging to shut off after 5 or 10 minutes of charging.
When they replaced the faulty valve, they said it would solve both the charging and the acceleration problems.
And they were correct. No problems since then.

FWIW I have done multiple SF to LA runs doing hard 90mph pulls and 350kW fast charging all in 120F and never gotten a complaint from the Taycan. So I'd suggest this isn't a normal response to heat.

I can't figure out how to do this - I've got it on the "Info" display, and clicking the thumbwheel offers no additional settings. Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me today.

On highway. Went to accelerate. No power. Turtle Icon showed up. Gave me just enough power to get over to the side of the highway. I did a restart and was able to get home.

Not a fun or safe situation with 2 little kids in the car.

Conditions were normal. 60*F outside. Only drove 20 miles or so.

I absolutely love this car but hope it will be fixed and safe to drive.
