Yesterday I went to a carwash and put the key in the driver’s door pocket. Later on I exited the vehicle (Taycan Turbo MY2020), not realizing the key was inside. I touched the door button to lock it and it locked.

When I returned I couldn’t open the door, which led me to realize where the key was. I tried to lift the door handle but it wouldn’t open. I walked away from the vehicle and reapproached it and when I tried again, it opened! Phew!

This, combined with the fact that the app didn’t have the option to unlock the vehicle (see this link), was very unsettling.

Sounds like it “Worked as designed”.

It’s designed to be able to lock without a key from outside the vehicle with the key inside?

I know! That’s what was so unsettling. Glad it worked in reverse and it unlocked!

If the app allowed lock/unlock it would not be such a big fear. All my other EVs can do this.

2021 has the feature, not 2020. At least not yet.

If you did not have the key on you then why walking away and coming back mattered? Maybe the car was "unlocked" but you were hitting a bug of the handles that I have described in another thread (sometimes you pull them and they don't open the door even if the car is unlocked, then eventually they work..). See my other post

No, it was definitely locked. And another strange thing happened shortly thereafter. I was not able to start the vehicle at all. It just appeared as though there was no key. I had to leave the vehicle, lock it, walk away and then back to the vehicle. It unlocked and then started up. Strange behavior. Possibly connected?

This is exactly why I keep my key in my pocket at all times while in the car. Then again, I do have a MY21, so I don't actually need to.

Is it 2020 vs 2021 or by region? Anyone in the US have the ability to lock/unlock from app?

That issue, whether you can/should be able to unlock from the app, is in another thread here. I researched that one too, because I thought it was illogical that I couldn't get in the vehicle with the key locked inside, and had no other way to get in.

Doesn't make sense. With all the little glitches here and there I wonder if we don't overlook the obvious sometimes. Could be you need a new battery in that key or if the Fob is having problems? I would use the other key for a while and see if any of these problems persist.

A lot
With keyless entry it's impossible to lock yourself out.
The word "keyless" is the keyword (got m, keyword? Hehehe)
