VIR getting a pair of Porsche L2 chargers

There used to be a POS unreliable old Signet CCS + Chademo 13 kW charger just outside of the VIR entrance (in the Race Plex area, right across from the first row of private garages). That Signet cabinet has been removed and replaced with a beautiful Porsche CCS charger (presumably one cable). I have no idea of the charging capacity. This is supposed to be on-line for an up-coming IMSA race, since the pace car for that race is a Taycan!

This just may be the best news I've received all week!

I got the same photo! Maybe we have the same salesman - Young? He was pretty confident us Taycan customers would have access.

I wonder if these are going into any other tracks? With the announcement of the Mission R and the upcoming electric Porsche racing series...

So here is the good news - not one, but two chargers.

The astute observer will now notice the bad news - I'm plugged in to the left side (not DC fast charge port). The chargers are both level 2, not DC fast. 9.1 kW is still 50% better than the 6 kW best reliable charge from the paddock 14-50 plugs, but doesn't do much for a track day.

Especially when you go at it hard and burn 40% in 20 minutes.

I'm so bummed.

But before you feel even a bit of pity, I drove a Taycan Turbo at VIR. Again. No pity is necessary.
