Yeah I really like that the car tells me how fast I can possibly charge at any given time and the difference between how much the car wants vs gets. Really helpful to optimize my charging stops (also whether to precondition the battery or not). The finger pointing is just hilarious šŸ˜†
Hi, J1 has battery temperature, but no direct way to control when, or even tell if, preconditioning is happening. Does the J1.2 have either of those things?

Thereā€™s a little message on the screen saying ā€œPorsche Charging Planner is activeā€ when the car is preconditioning the battery. It comes on and off as needed when approaching the charging station in the nav. And itā€™ll show the charging speed it can do at real-time.

As far as I can tell, the preconditioning doesnā€™t take into the power of the charging station you put in the nav. So for example, if Iā€™m going to a 200kw charging station, Iā€™d turn off the charging planner once the car shows it can charge at 200kw so it doesnā€™t waste

My own test confirms the second hypothesis.
I turned on nav to a 640kW station that the Taycan thought was still 50kW.
(Not the fault of the Taycan, since the station upgrade does not appear in PlugShare, but other new stations do appear in the Taycan nav, so those frequent map updates are for real!)

The preconditioning still took place, even though it would not have been of any use at 50kW DCFC.
(And of course the 640kW charger couldnā€™t maintain even 100kW, since of course itā€™s our taxpayer dollars at work.)

Seems to me that if one has a non-Tesla charging account (I do) and THIS ADAPTER, it should be a simple PnC situation. It can deliver 150kw, not bad.

Does anyone see any issues with this situation? Iā€™d like to carry an adapter, before Porsche offers it sometime in the foggy future.

In Australia we can use Tesla superchargers and no adapter needed, just the Tesla app..price is higher of course or a bit cheaper paying a monthly fee. The o lot problem is not all superchargers stations are non-Tesla open..I assume because of the number of available stalls

Yes, that adapter looks like it can eventually get you connected here in the USA.
However, even if you activate the Tesla charger from the app today, the first thing the car will do is transmit its VIN to the charger during the CCS handshake.
The charger will reject your VIN as no partnership currently exists between Porsche and Tesla (coming soon). Perhaps Tesla will relax that constraint sometime in the future and just let any CCS adapter activate and begin a charge.

Iā€™d go with the Lectron or A2Z adapter rather a brand that appears to be named after a rather untrustworthy character from LOTR.

Once we do receive authorization, even with the 150kW/400v option, the actual speed is in the 130s. But reliable, and sustained. (By contrast, today I tried again at a local 640kW charger but never even hit 67kW.)

As for when we do receive authorization from Tesla, this summer sure would be nice. But so much is TBD. The only thing for certain is no need to wait for an adapter with a car company logo.

So even thatā€™s not certain! Word is if you use a non-approved adapter and something goes wrong, no liability from either Tesla or Porsche.

If you use any adapter, regardless of logo, and something goes wrong (which Iā€™m pretty sure has never happened), the one thing that is for certain is that all sorts of claims and counter claims will ensue among the charger manufacturer, the charger owner, the station land owner, the adapter company, the car manufacturer (which is never the producer of the adapter for any CCS1 EV model), and the EV driver.

Agree New Hampshire is a CCS wasteland. Went up to Mt Sunapee in winter 2023 and nearest CCS Charger was 50 miles away And that was a 50KW single station unit. Hoping things have improved since then but looking for optionality that Tesla supercharger network will provide.
