Source-- a Rivian Forum perhaps?
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/poll-should-rivian-offer-apple-carplay.29383/

There is Apple Music now as a new music source on a Rivian Gen 2 and maybe on Gen 1, but connectivity will not be free anymore.
However, one thing i disliked about Rivian infotainment is that they still have not released a music playback from USB as a source. What a simple thing to do. They already allow video from 5 cameras to record 5 separate streams onto USB storage, but not to play silly media files.
Apple Music and other stuff like that says nothing about CarPlay. Same with Apple watch/phone to unlock. Those are both supported completely outside of CarPlay.

I was hoping somebody could point me to Rivian stating the intent as part of the Gen2 announcements or Investment Day.

Rivian has high expectations for its joint venture with Volkswagen, which should result in developing next-generation vehicle architectures. Rivian is confident that the deal will be closed by the year's end, and its software and network architecture will power hundreds of thousands of EVs built under Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and other Volkswagen Group brands.
. . .
Why is Rivian so confident that Rivian will pursue this partnership despite the difficulties that Volkswagen faces at home? Well, Rivian said it successfully integrated its zonal network architecture and infotainment system into "a drivable demonstrator" prototype from the Volkswagen Group. Rivian demonstrated its software's ability to control the vehicle's core functions, different drive modes, and infotainment features. It also demonstrated remote control of the demonstrator as well as over-the-air updates.
. . .
Rivian hopes the joint venture will see its software and zonal network architecture installed in hundreds of thousands of EVs built by the many brands under the Volkswagen Group's umbrella. The carmaker has three volume brands (Volkswagen, Skoda, and Seat), three luxury brands (Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini), and two ultra-luxury brands (Bentley and Bugatti) that could use Rivian's Software, besides Scout Motors, which is already onboard.

According to the initial announcement, the joint venture aims to create the next-generation electrical architecture and vertically integrated software for electric vehicles. Rivian specifically mentions Volkswagen's Group scale as an opportunity to reach a broad set of global customers across a diverse range of vehicles and price points. The startup wants to sell Volkswagen its electrical components, not only the software that powers them.

as VW/Audi/Porsche lose interest in EV's and are begging the EU to roll back deadlines allowing a longer off ramp for legacy ICE vehicles…hmmmm we'll see how this plays out.

How is this going to help them with software? Most software is the same in modern EV and ICE cars. PCM exists in Porsche ICE offerings too.

So there will be a third software in VW Group, what's the problem with Android?

Android is a platform, an OS with some loosely defined phone/tablet apps/services around it, nothing car specific (other than maybe an Android Auto client, but AppleCar Play client for example is definitely not part of Android offering). Car manufacturer still has to write software for a car that is Android based.

The new Apple Carplay on the other hand is aimed to provide software on the car itself, perhaps it will end up the go-to software for auto manufacturers who don't have their own expertise to write full stack software.
