Is it for self comfort only ? So why this option so close to battery settings ?

Is it just to make me feel good when I am enetering the car after the cold night ?

It requires quite a lot of energy to heat the car so the idea is to preheat it while it’s still plugged in to not drain the battery before a trip or similar.

Note that while charging at home, if your charger is not powerfully enough, it will drain battery regardless.

it also heats the battery to 12-13 degrees c.
When normally doing a direct start of preconditioning roughly 1/2 hr before departure my car CT4S My22 is basically heating up the car, seat and steering wheel. The battery is just heated up from the outdoor temperature (roughly 0 c) to about 5-6 c.

However yesterday while using the timer, it also heated up the battery to 23 c.

Mostly for cabin comfort and can be set remotely via the app and / or use of a Timer. Cold / frosty mornings - use the feature to warm up the interior of the car.

Side effect is (obviously) to increase the temperature of the main battery which helps with range.

Note that it isn't the same as preconditioning the battery prior to charging.

Read the section in the Porsche Good To Know App for more details.

Is the behaviour different between using a timer and direct preheating ?
Do both prepare the battery in the same way ?
I am asking to know what the best way is to prepare the car for a long road trip.

You need to disassociate the misconception that preheat / cool relates to battery warming (or cooling) - it slight warming is simply due to a by product (chemistry) if using the battery to power something which in this case would be your AC, heated seats, heated steering wheel and rear demister.

The function is a convenience feature to warm or cool the car before your next journey. Most people would use it to warm the cabin up to an hour prior to departure (or cool).

Best used when connected to an EVSE otherwise you'll use up.available battery which will reduce your range.

Preheat can be set by a timer (via PCM or My Porsche App) or by pressing the button on the centre console.

The max period is 1 HR.

You can also activate when opening the driver's door (option in PCM) which triggers preheat for 5 mins. It will trigger twice of you open / close the door within quick succession and then deactivate for a while to avoid unnecessary wastage.

Which ever way you do it results in the same outcome.

Note that the behaviour and equipment used to heat / cool will differ depending on the preset temperature you want.

Suggest experimenting and to read the section in the Porsche Good To Know App.

Does the cabin preheat also charge the 12v battery irrespective of whether the car is charging or not?

I have heard this and haven’t experimented enough yet, but pre heating for 20 minutes seems to warm the battery more than driving for 20 minutes. At least I think it does, so I am not entirely sure that it is a by product of battery use

How I use it in UK winter (especially if it's frosty).

Car charges cheap rate ocernight to 80%.
About 30-60 mins before I set off, I use my phone to re-start the charger going again (Direct charge) and also activate precool/heat.

When I get in the car, its nice and warm and frost free. The battery is slightly warmer, so more efficient. And the SOC is about 82-84%. But I will be driving it straight away, so not concerned about it being over 80%.
