Cool thread. After some thinking, I've revised my dash to show the 'Satellite View' of the map. It is so much easier to see landmarks and road with this view - terrific! Left stays tire pressure, right is song or station selection. I've panned out to show all the screens including Waze on the center console and the radar/laser display in the mirror. The comments I get most often about the interior is '... it looks like a spaceship...'.

This is one of the reasons I think the black/dark silver interior looks so good - plenty of colors to see in the displays and it really brings out the contrast.

Please.explain, what is the laser/radar display? Where is the laser/radar receiver mounted? Is it a modified mirror, a Porsche accessory or aftermarket??

It's a remote Escort 360 ci max with display custom mounted in the mirror. The control panel is obscured by the steering wheel, but is about the size of a flash drive and located just to the left of the gear selector. Black/dark silver with blue lighting to match the ambient.

Thank you for your answer, your installation looks amazing.

I looked at the Escort website and do not see a remote Escort 360 3i Max shown or an accessory display that can be mounted in the mirror.

Please give us more details about your installation.

  • Did you modify the Escort by removing it's display to install in the mirror?
  • How was the mirror modified and who did that for you?
  • We're there plans for the mod or did you or an installer figure it out?
  • Where is the Escort radar receiver and the controls mounted?
  • What is the Escort's source of power?
  • Is there a company that converts Escorts for remote installation?

(In 1985 I purchased a modified original Escort from a company that modified them for remote installation. The radar receiver was mounted under the front bumper of my Porsche 928S with a long ribbon cable that the installer ran through the firewall to mount the display under my dash. The unit was virtually invisible unless you knew what to look for under the bumper. I have subsequently used K4s in several 911s which have remote install capability with sensors in the license plate frames, but Escort is a far superior detector).

Here's the link to the remote Escort Max Ci 360:
https://www.escortradar.com/products/max-ci-360

The shop is Eclipse and I checked to make sure it's ok to contact them - they can recommend a shop in your area. Rick at: [email protected]

The brain is under the dash and the radar receiver is behind the bumper. The laser shifters are barely detectable in the front lower bumper area. The mirror was sent out to a 3rd party. These guys are fanatics that do an incredible job - very expensive, but worth it!

Thank you for the information; it was extremely helpful. I hadn't seen the remote Escorts on their website. They have a certified installer several miles from my home, I will look into the cost and the time to install the system in my car.

You can also check out Radar-mirror.com. I haven't used them yet, but have seen positive reviews and will probably ask my installer to use them when I install my custom radar in my Taycan.

I don't understand why Porsche cannot make all viewing options available to both side dial in the dash like a model S/X....I find the options in the left dial pretty useless.

My guess (and nothing more) is around being a bit conservative and wanting to remain ICE like in some respects. They will always shy away from "gimmicks" (not suggesting the tesla implementation is btw).

Being a map North up type, I'll admit I sometimes use the small map in the middle, set for direction of travel and zoomed way in. Why you ask? Well as I've been exploring back roads at license risking speeds, it's nice to be able to quickly glance down and see what this road is going to do around the bend I see ahead of me. When I'm not being a delinquent, I use the power meter. Left pod is traffic sign recognition, right pod is battery temperature, SOC, system voltage and compass.

PDCC in the left pod is interesting to see but enough so it's distracting. Same with the all wheel drive info display.

Left is tire pressure - my favorite thing to monitor on every car. Center small map and right is media list. I can scroll through the FLAC songs on my flash drive or sirius with right scroll and adjust on/off and volume with the left scroll knob. Really fantastic for listening to music/radio. It would be nice to have the option to display gage/battery as well in the middle. I've got Waze on the center display via CarPlay, and don't really need the center map view. I have infrared night vision in the center on auto, so it comes up whenever anything is detected. That is a very cool feature. Then I've got radar/laser readout display in the upper right corner of my rearview mirror.

Vim Schrotnock, May I ask how you set the map as you show it here? When I choose Map, all I get is a black-and-white view in which the roads are hairline thin, hard to see, and the area shown is too large so that the details of the immediately surrounding area are too small to be useful. Thank you in advance.

Night mode or something like that. Its there in the cluster map menu. «Night mode allways» or something?
