When did Taycans become reliable?

There is no specific model year that is or isn't reliable.
My (early) 2020 has been reliable from day one.
Now on 46.000 km.

Especially cuz it has the 11 kW OBC which is way more reliable than the 22 kW OBC (which wasn't even available yet at that time).

What exactly do you mean by "reliable"?
Like, does the car take you wherever you like at any time you like?
Or do you mean issues/weak points?

I've had some "issues" but nothing serious, more like bug-fixing and rear wing alignment.

Weak points are: HV-heater and 22 kW OBC.
Other than that there are no common issues, although there are some lemons but that happens with every brand/model.

fully agree Dee, my used Turbo from June 2020 is running like a charm, all recalls & updates done, had it for 1,5 months only but it's a pleasure despite the weaker range in the super cold winter we've had

Tesla's as with all vehicles do have their problems. My real world experience with Tesla clearly demonstrates (to me) that it is light years ahead of the Taycan when it comes to everything except suspension and handling. I struggle to think of anything my Taycan does better, except the spirited drive and that it is a bit faster than the Tesla MY Juniper for 25% of the MSRP.

what are people’s experiences with home charging (11 kws) and onboard charger failure? my ‘20 4s had both the complete battery and the OBC replaced (warranty bill said about CAD$70k).

Fit and finish, refinement and style.

Don’t underestimate how much extra people are willing to pay for those things in a luxury purchase.

No question Tesla has cracked the code on “cheap performance” and some neat technology.

But it is like comparing a Chevy Camaro or Mustang GT to a Porsche 911. The 911 will always lose in any comparison where price/value is considered.

As does pretty much any product is the “luxury” corner of the market. True whether is cars, watches, clothes, hotel rooms or food.

I understand how much folks are willing to pay for the brand and all that it brings to the table. There is one flaw, that is the Taycan's reliability in those areas that matter to daily driving. From my perspective, I find the Tesla a much better DD. It surpasses the Taycan in almost every category except fit and finish, along with style. As I have said earlier in this thread, a 911 is a better sports car and has a lower cost of ownership. I have owned 5 911 variants and the only one that was more uncomfortable than the Taycan as a daily driver was the 991 GT3. Even the GT3 surpassed the Taycan in ease of ingress and egress.

The DD reliability annoyances centered around the PCM and tech and recalls have really started to weigh on me after 5 years of the Taycan ownership experience. Add to the equation, excessive depreciation mostly due IMO to the lack of buyers in the resale market and it all adds up to an underwhelming vehicle.

That would probably do a lot for the real value as well. Just look at how many owners here are paranoid of the thought of owning this car without a bumper to bumper warranty.

Porsche's paint, fit and finish is in a different dimension than Tesla. Despite getting much better, I can see a Tesla's panel gaps driving past every one I see (which is a ton in the SF Bay Area).

Tesla has better (imo) software and their improvement cycle, throttle response (power and regen delivery) and I guess battery/power delivery efficiency (I'm not positive if it's my driving style in each, battery size, or what).

It's not just the taycan but all Porsche. The upcharge for service at the dealership is just highway robbery. $6000 for brake pads on PSBC cars, $4k to change the 12v battery. And those are just Maintenance parts. I don't think you're getting out of any unscheduled service appointment for under 5k.
