When does range improve?

I’ve had my TTS almost a month now. Most trips have been relatively short so wasn’t expecting much from range but I have had one trip from West Yorkshire to London and back and a trip to Leeds and back which should have given a good estimation of consumption and I’m staggered how much under the quoted range I’m getting.

London trip on 7th Dec was 2.0 mi/kWh out, 2.1 mi/kWh back. Trip to Leeds on weds this week was 2.2 mi/kWh in both directions. Car was preconditioned on outbound trip to save battery on both occasions.

Car currently sitting with 73% SoC and estimating 139mi remaining which would be 190mi @ 100% and experience so far suggests that’s accurate.

what am I missing? Should I really expect 70% of the quoted range?

I’m experiencing the same thing. Just bought a GTS last week. Regen kicked in a few days ago but I’m still only getting 210 on a full charge. It’s still pretty darn cold outside but I was definitely expecting around 240 miles instead of 210. I’m hoping when the weather gets up to around 60-70°F I’ll see a big range increase.

Regen (recuperation) will not add many miles so you'll need to adjust expectations on this front.

Overrun recuperation (in Sport, Sport Plus, manually enabled) is the same as lifting off the accelerator and using the motors to slow the car down.

More energy is put back into the battery using braking recuperation. Both are dependent on temperatures and so on and neither will add much additional range.

Brake recuperation can provide more range than that achieved via overrun recuperation.

Your biggest range issue is due to the cold temperature.

Over time things will improve and most will be derived from warmer ambient temperatures.

Recup (however activated) will add a token couple of miles on a typical journey. A warmer ambient temperature (and therefore battery temperature) will provide a higher range estimate and potentially therefore more range. Setting your AC to ECO PLUS and engaging RANGE drive mode will effectively be the nuclear option to get the most range when low ambient and when high ambient.

60F is not that warm and so not much increase in expected increased range. 75C+ and you'll be in the near optimal ambient band and should expect to see 240 miles at a minimum - possibly much more.

Your car is new and the battery is still learning.

More miles, time and charging cycles will start to extend the estimated range.

The thing which makes the most difference for me is setting A/C Eco.
It would be expected from the Porsche range calculator which shows almost 10% more range at 5C and I get at least that. and I didn’t notice a particularly big difference in speed of getting to set temperature, and it was still way quicker than an IC engined car at warming the cabin from cold.
On steady runs, such as on a motorway, recuperation won’t change range much, though it should in town and country roads as it has on other electric powered (plug in hybrid) cars I’ve had.

Collected my new Taycan Turbo yesterday from Reading (great experience) and drove the ~150 miles home to Mansfield

The car was initially showing 208 miles at 100% SoC in the collection bay and once my destination was selected in the nav it increased to 240 miles (no battery pre-conditioning used).

I achieved 2.4 mi/kWh at an average of 60mph (so was travelling a fair bit quicker than this where conditions and traffic allowed). The average temp was ~6C, I used range mode and adaptive cruise for 90% of the journey. I arrived home with 80 miles range remaining. I've got the 21" wheels.

I was quite pleased with that given the performance on offer. The cold weather and shorter journeys can't be helping with range at this time of year, but the range estimate on a full charge when new seems to be a little low relative to what the car is actually capable of?

The car doesn't know where you will travel to unless you use NAV whereupon it will then invoke the Charging Planner and optimise a few things which invariably adjusts the range.

Conservative estimates are fair enough.

Mine seems to be starting to average above 2.4 mi/kWh and more on longer and more efficient journeys. It’s still pretty cold in the UK, so don’t be surprised if it stays relatively low until temperatures really get back up in the teens and above. I’m happy with the 200+ miles at 100% I’d be getting tbh

I always have my A/C on ECO. Showing range at 100% at about 220 which I’m sure isn’t too bad when it’s in the 40-50°F range. I’m definitely waiting for warmer temps though.

That’s interesting as I’d read about the eco setting but changing it only added 2-3 miles on an almost full charge so I found it pointless. I should mention I still left it in eco mode for the above trips though

See my post today after the major software update i am getting 284 miles at 100% SOC which is thirty miles more than before the update however i live in Florida were it is warm
