The detailer that does my car is advising windshield PPF. I am worried about some wierd clarity issues, or wiper issues, or sensor issues etc. Has anyone done it.

I have it (Bray) on a different car. There’s very minor distortion that I normally don’t notice, but sometimes see if I’m looking for it.

A few times, the wipers seemed sticky in very light rain, but also not normally an issue.

Had it. Hated it after a while. Can’t really use windshield wipers without scratching the material. Or you have to baby it. Not the same as PPF for rest of car. And to remove it costs hundreds of dollars too.

It’s good for a garage queen. But daily driver? Probably not.

Even my installer recommended against it. Too many people unhappy with it.

Had it from a company called Dynashield STEK. Was not very good. I could see orange peeling out of the windshield. Went back to installer who changed it to something else. It was much better. I can't remember the name of the product but it looked great for about 1.5 years. I am now seeing streaks and swirls and will likely need to change it out soon. Installer says these films are good for about 1-2 years only (due to wiper use)

Cost $400 to replace. Still cheaper than replacing windshield and dealer costs. The windshield PPF has protected the underling glass from so many rock chips. I currently have 2 large scratches on the PPF (from rock impacts) which probably would have chipped the glass and cost me/insurance $2500 to replace

That seems backwards to me. I have it on the car I drive the most and not on the cars driven less.

Maybe different brands/installers are better or worse; or different people have different tolerances and expectations. But 95% of the time, I forget it’s even there. I had it put on 3 months ago and have driven 8k miles with it so far.

2+ years with Stek - gauranteed saved cracks on at least 3 occasions to date - have essentially same visibility as when installed and none of the clarity issues commented on above - no brainer insurance against major hassle and cost of windshield replacement.

It is however massively important to have an experienced pro/shop to install to avoid any possibility of distortion - the first attempt on my car was redone on request by me and result has been perfect to date.

I had it for a few years on another car. It lasted about 3 years before it started having optical clarity issues with halos. Saved a bunch of guaranteed cracks. It was very expensive. $300 in 2016?

Mine was $400 installed in 2022 - opinions vary of course but for me in respect my time and hassle re windshield replacement (never-mind deductibles, install calibration etc) this is still cheap insurance spread over 2+ years.

Top installer in my area refuses to install windshield PPF. Too many customer complaints….doesnt live up to his standards when it comes to the windshield.

Possibly 🙂. I was actually willing to take the risk and have my installer do it anyway because I thought I could manage it given that I am detailing nerd. My installer wanted nothing to do with it. 🫤

Sounds like a mixed bag. Recurring 12-18 month spend. High reliance of kind of product used by installer. And around 500 bucks.

$100 dollar deductible. One broken windshield in three years. They came and got, the car, replaced the windshield, calibrated it and brought back to my house in 6 hours. No brainer for me.

I believe the type of weather that you are in plays a part as well.
