Just got a mail from my dealer that she wants me to come in on the 4th to configure my car. :)
Just got this email from my dealer:

Mike,

Good afternoon. Live broadcasting of the world premiere of the Porsche Taycan will be hosted by Australian former Formula One driver Mark Webber next Wednesday, September 4th, at 9:00 AM on

newstv.porsche.com/en/.

You should be able to configure your new Taycan shortly afterwards.

Tune in. Thanks.

Bruce

I've had to go into my dealer to make sure I was still on the list. Yes I am and two people seemed to have dropped off. However, they had my email address wrong, so I hadn't received one update from them since I left my deposit...in May of 2018!

What will be the time of the livestream, if you live in the Pacific Time Zone (California)?

They had better have some super duper huge servers to handle the traffic on the site to configure what 30k people want to order! :)

Yeah, me too.
Just got the email.
But still, I want to see (IAA 16th sept) and drive the car before I place my order.

Is there some sort of time limit in which my reservation will expire?

Don’t think so BUT apparently they are expecting A LOT OF interest as of Wednesday afternoon........ at least here in Switzerland. So I have been prioritized as a longtime reservation holder. Also, at least here in Switzerland, the only one that can be configured on Wednesday is the TurboS....... don’t know if the person was referring to my personal interest or that that person really ment that it’s for now only the TurboS that will be open for configuration on Wednesday...........

Nah, I don't think so.
Really excited to see what they come up with.
Also about the options, colors and rims.
But maybe we already know...

I am hoping im wrong, but I will be really impressed if they let people configure on the 4th. To me, it sounds like most dealers are as much in the dark as buyers are. yeah maybe the dealers owners have some info but not the sales staff.
Tesla has disrupted the status quo ( in terms of how cars are configured and bought) that its forcing Porsche and other luxury cars makers to rethink everything. If the Tesla model 3 was not around, the taycan would start @ 150 K. I mean look @ the panamera hybrid . that thing starts @ 100K.
After next week, how many people will actually want a Panamera hybrid versus a Taycan, my guess is not many . There will only be two camps, ice and electric. But i guess we are already seeing this as chevy has deleted the volt. and will focus on extending the bolt line to include more variations .
Porsche is still figuring out how they will make the type of margins they are used to in a new electric world, My guess is that all other E models after the taycan will be more money. at least for the next 5-10 years. In my eyes they are offering the taycan at a deep discount compared to the other cars they sell. Lucky for them they have a huge stockpile of cash and bob and weave until they succeed at making the margins they want. Maybe ill help them and opt of the $8K brake upgrade.

Well, to launch a new model, you either have to produce high volumes or high price exclusivity.
I think producing an EV is considerably cheaper but developing new tech does take some time and money, especially when you set up a high volume production line in a brand new factory with new production methodes (flexi line).
I think their aim is, and confirmed by the huge interest, to produce large quatities and many variants.
I think that's why they can keep them "affordable".
Note, I'm not saying "cheap" though.
That's Tesla territory (which still dominates the car and battery technology).
Plenty of choice for EV enthusiasts and much more to come in the near future!
Bring it on!
