I'm also in Toronto. Curious which dealership you were at that made you put $5K down. Under Canadian law a deposit must be fully refundable and cannot be more that $1K. Now of course if you offered $5K they won't refuse, it, but they can't ask for more that $1K. I found this out with Porsche North Toronto when they originally (mistakenly) asked for too much and then ended up adjusting their entire deposit program after I pointed out $1K is the max.

However, like you, I too hadn't heard anything from my dealership for nearly TWO YEARS (hence why I started this thread) until very recently when I got my certificate in the mail and a nice little follow up from a salesperson who's name I had completely forgotten.

My fear is they roll out the most expensive Taycans first and the one I really want is still a year out. I may pick up an Audi RS5 instead if that becomes the case.
Yeah I was only asked for 1K in Vancouver... hell when the M2 first came out I could have got one for no deposit. Toronto is known for shitty dealership practices though.

I emailed the salesman that took my deposit in January to see if the dealership has any simultaneous event on sept 4.

"Good morning Friedrich,

Porsche has not announced anything yet. We will be doing something for the Taycan once they’ve been officially rolled out. Porsche won’t even allow our Porsche rep to bring one by the dealership yet- he’s been trying for months. They’re very hush-hush about it. I will definitely be in touch though- Have a great holiday!

All the best,"

Similar email/conversation I just had with the local dealer in Atlanta. It’s probably the same one:)

So this has been my experience thus far:
  • I drop off a check in May of 2018 at my Silicon Valley Porsche Center (Porsche Stevens Creek)
  • I was told I was 51 on the list
  • Nothing happens in the time since (no communication at all)
  • August 25, 2019 I visit the Porsche Center to ask questions about the unveiling on September 4th
  • The sales team are professional, but essentially tell me nothing new. In fact, due to me having had daily a Google Alert on the Taycan since May of 2018, I know more than them (which is incredibly frustrating)
  • I also learn that I have moved up the list from 51 to 49 (this is the dealer database, which is different from the Porsche database)
  • I also learn that they had my email address incorrect, thus the no information in all that time
  • I also learn that my name only (no email, no personal home address, no phone number) was in the Porsche database
  • I call the dealership today to learn they are NOT planning any event centered around the unveiling tomorrow.
  • They are NOT configuring cars for people ("although the top 3 on the list may have that ability," said the rep)

All in all, this has been a very long wait and then wait-some-more experience for me with insufficient information handed down from Porsche to the local dealers. This forum is a wonderful addition to the shared knowledge base about the Taycan, so I'm really happy to hang out here as we wait.

Yup, just like this. They seem deeply vested in the customer relations of selling a $200K car /s

Not expecting any “love”, but I did place my name on a no deposit “list” local dealer is keeping July 2018. Last month I got the Porsche participation certificate in the mail. Maybe I will get contacted in 2020.

In the meantime I will look forward to real road and track reviews and get to play around with the online configurator to get to just the right options. Hopefully save enough money by then to get the Turbo S variant, but I’m hoping it doesn’t go much over $150k in the US.

I know this is a completely unrelated experience, but:
While waiting for the Taycan my wife tried to purchase the new GT4 for us and we were told that because we have not bought a previous GT car, that it would be impossible to make an order.

So now after waiting all this time, I’ve had zero updates from my dealer ( and I want to stress they have been very polite ) and now the Taycan is significantly more money than between the
“Cayenne and panamera”

Overall a very negative Porsche experience.

I blame the Porsche marketing team and not my dealership.

That sounds so bizarre. The Cayman ? The GT4 isn’t that special. Sweet, yes, but not limited. Maybe ask another dealer. Shipping from another city in Canada is likely more reasonable than you initially expect. Shipping from the states is likely to be a nightmare but there are a lot of dealers in the Midwest pretty motivated for customers ....

I mean he was polite enough about it, but he said even if we left money with him it would just sit. I’ve never bought a Porsche or limited car before so I just believed him. Well except for what ever “limited” means for Nissan and the GTR (literally not limited)

The GT4 was just announced. It’s not unavailable. What he may have meant was that their quota only covers their anticipated orders from their existing customers. Which would be a bummer, but is a thing. Find another dealer with remaining quota. It’s also possible they’ll have quota for the 2021 model year after their existing customers get through the queue. And if none of that works, take a look at very low mileage used ones next year.

A lot
Yesterday I got a little present from my dealer.
It's the third time this happens.
I think they really do care about their customers...
The letter that came with it said: Congratulations on your new Porsche Taycan.

It isn't available on the net, only through Porsche for promotion so it's kinda hard to get one and therefore of some collector value.
How nice.
