I always wondered what the BMW M5's time was, and high expectation though it was, despite the fact Taycan is electric whilst M5 is petrol, I was slightly disappointed, truth be told to find the lap time for the Taycan was slightly slower.

But the Taycan I think will have faster versions - I think/hope there are more model variants yet to be released

I'm sure Porsche will do a lap with the Turbo S.
It'll be slightly faster, like 5-10 seconds, maybe more.
I don't know if there is a difference in topspeed between the Turbo and Turbo S but you can gain quite a few seconds by driving 280 instead of 270km/h...

tires make a big difference on the ring and it’s not clear what the M5 was running. Impressive regardless, but it’d be interesting to a turbo S running r cup tires like the model S was.

also, the taycan is very heavy. What I wouldn’t give for a Cayman with half the battery pack :)

Yeah, the battery pack is half the problem, a more lightweight battery pack would do wonders for the Nurburgring time

Yes, and the top speed.. maybe a higher top speed with the sport plus mode.. But the weight is the major problem.. The battery can make 850HK!!

But then the cooling would become an issue, just like Tesla's.
Yes colling will be a big problem, I dream about a Taycan GT with over 1000HK in the future..

I'm sure it will happen. Porsche have designed the Taycan as a four-door supercar - that's its main USP against the Tesla Model S

The new Audi RS Q8 (600hp/800Nm) did a 7:42 on the Ring.
Now, being equally heavy (I think), would a Taycan Turbo be as fast (or slow) as a big SUV like the RS Q8?
I don't think so.
More and more I think the Turbo could do better, the Turbo S even more.
I think Porsche just took it slow to call out Tesla (although 7:42 is pretty quick).
To be continued?

the taycan time is on stock tires. The Tesla time sport cup 2 r. It’s certain the taycan *could* do better. I’m curious why Porsche hasn’t. I’m guessing to better sandbag Elon, but the suspension is killing me

Well, that's what I'm saying.
In the end, we'll just get better cars!

All this will soon be irrelevant. The new Tesla Roadster will have 620 mile range, 1.9 s 0-60, 8.8s 1/4 mile and top speed over 250 mph and 4 seats (back ones are small). It will be available in 2020 just like the Taycan for $200K - not much more than a Taycan.

Elon Musk's claim - "it will be the ultimate gasoline powered car smackdown. It will be the fastest production car man has ever built."

Makes me think twice about my Taycan that is pushing $200K

You're talking about a two-door sportscar.
The Taycan is a four-door supersaloon.
Stop it.

the next gen roadster is going to be amazing. But it’s also not going to be available until 2021-2022 and it’s going to start at $250k+. Elon and Frank have been pretty open about it missing schedule, and given it’s state the price will be higher too.
