I agree that this is a great capability. It is something they offer in their older (Gen 2) Wall Charger, but unfortunately it's not currently supported in the Gen 3 units. Tesla has been talking about this capability since the charger came out, but they have yet to provide the firmware that...
I'm really sorry to see you go Don. I thoroughly enjoyed following you daily on your road trip when you first got the Taycan. I also find your posts here both very informative and entertaining. It's been a real pleasure and I wish you the best wherever life may lead.
If nothing else, reading...
Did Porsche have any thoughts on using a third-party EVSE (in particular, ChargePoint Flex) to charge the Taycan? FWIW, I've been using a ChargePoint Home (the previous generation EVSE) to charge my BMW i3 and never have a problem.
Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful trip with us Don. I think it was a fantastic experience not only for you but also for the many followers you have here.
I'm located just outside Boston and a member of the Northeast Region of the Porsche Club of America (PCA). If you ever consider...
I'm curious where you heard this since Porsche has been touting this capability from early on. My guess is it will be much more tightly controlled than Tesla's "here's something you can beta test for us" mentality...
Total agreement. I'm surprised this engineering choice by Tesla didn't show up as a problem during crash testing. I'm fine with the extra inconvenience.
Great write-up. The one thing that really struck me was the fact that you folks are all first-time Porsche owners! Not sure if you've all been to Germany, but I would HIGHLY recommend visiting Stuttgart (including of course the factory in Zuffenhausen) to get a feeling for not only the...
In 1999 I went on a PCA Treffen to the factory in Zuffenhausen and the people at the factory actually seemed bothered by the concept of a Porsche "garage queen". "Our cars are meant to be driven!" You're making them proud Don!
Actually, quick question on your trip Don. I wonder why you decided to do the Canadian portion of your trek first? I would think the weather in Canada would be less of an issue if you had gone "clockwise" instead of "counter-clockwise" on your loop...
Wow, I don't think you could make this stuff up Don! It seems awfully coincidental... I would be really curious whether the power problem was due to you using their charger. At least you're able to charge it using Level 2.
What a beautiful place Don. And is that a selfie? :) I was going to suggest you do that since there a lot of us following your great adventure and this way we can put a face to the name...
At the minimum Don, it sounds like you were well treated by Porsche of Calgary. My gut feel it probably was a car/charger incompatibility issue and not an issue specifically with your car, but that was just a guess. I think the fact that the car logs didn't show an issue with the car itself...
