As a former 997.2 owner, I disagree :) The interior of the 997.2 was a massive upgrade over the 997.1. Most of the externals stayed the same but the .2 moved over to modern LED lighting in the rear as well as introduction of Bi-Xenon headlights, which were an amazing upgrade. Your sentiment is...
That front end - yeesh. Looks like it was simplified for lower cost more than anything. Looks very generic, which is too bad as the 1st gen has such futuristic styling. The internal engineering advances are pretty incredible and shows how much they’ve learned in 4 years.
Seeing Porsche make these advancements is great even though, like you, I’ll be driving my MY2020 4S for a long time to come. I have a feeling they’ve reworked a lot of the internal systems as well to minimize power draw along with other components (updated HV battery, primary). It be a shocker...
Interesting…I noticed the SoC behavior over the summer where the car would “overcharge” above my 80% setting as well.
However, I’m now seeing different behavior. Whenever I charge to 80% (both the car and app report the same SoC) as soon as I back out of my driveway (it’s not long) I’m at 78%...
Hopefully more details come out, but I think this is more about Porsche recognizing that (come to find out) software is hard and Apple and Google provide experiences for users far beyond what they can build in-house. This reads to me that like they do with some Apple services, Porsche will build...
My dealer has a pair of Turbo Chargers out front and I go there at least once a month. I’ve been a customer for about 10 years and even though the dealership has changed ownership twice, they’ve been pretty good to me.
It’s great to stop in there, especially when I’m ~20% SoC and get the super...
:D IIRC, there was a rumor that Porsche would be dropping the second port. Not surprised as they’re trying to maximize margin on the car and can likely save a good chunk on the BOM by eliminating that port and that goes with it under the sheet metal. They’ve been public about driving more...
FWIW, as soon as the 4S was announced I ordered one. I’ve worked in tech for my entire career and know the pace of change only increases and that breakthroughs are always just around the corner. All that said, I went all in on my car and the EV experience and have zero regrets. Three years after...
Just got my car back today after having this issue resolved. It took 3 days due to issues with another part and one of the bolt heads breaking off. My dealer did a very thorough replacement job for the fans and a few other parts. You hopefully can hear in my video just how pronounced the issue...
I don’t think this is the case. My uncle has a 2020 Turbo that came off the production line at the same time as my 4S and his car received the update the other day. It’d be bizarre that a Turbo and a 4S from the same model year would have different PCM hardware/software to allow OTA. Maybe it’s...
I haven't had any indication in my car of an update. I had to go to an appointment this morning and both times the PCM Update app said I was current. Maybe in the next few days or something as they roll the update out across the fleet. I still haven't seen anything about scope of the update and...
Just checked my 2020 4S (Turbo wheels) with Performance+ battery and with about 21K miles (gotcha day is coming up in July). I’ve easily had a range of 250+ miles in summer here in New England, but the problem the Taycan is so easy to drive at highway speeds that keeping it under 80 mph is...
Yup, it’s QNX running on a Linux base to support Docker (which I can’t believe is running in my car - I pray there’s no k8s involved :) ).Since all the heavy lifting of CarPlay is done on the iPhone, with the in-car screen effectively being a second screen that iOS projects onto, there’s a...
I think at the Taycan launch back in 2019 Porsche was touting that the dealers would have these available for customers. The GM told me the price, which I won’t repeat, but it was eye-popping. I believe the dealers are shouldering most of the cost - maybe there’s some back-end incentive program...
My dealer, Porsche Westwood (MA), just installed two Turbo Chargers and I went down today to try them out. I didn’t need a charge as I was at about 48% SoC and my battery was not warmed up (it was at 69 F), but wanted to check it out. They’re so new that they haven’t registered it with any of...
Not sure what platform you’re on, but on iOS actively quitting apps really doesn’t do anything useful. You’re better off looking at each app’s Background App Refresh setting and turn off apps where you don’t care about background refresh — that’s saved me a ton of battery life.
OK, back to...
