Taycan is quick off the line but any of the truly high performance cars will beat it once the Turbo's spool up

Actually no. The Taycan had quite a head start here. The Taycan is probably the best car I've ever driven, but it is NOT a track car. The GT3 and Cup are some of the best track cars you can buy, and they will destroy the Taycan on any track. Sorry.

That was said tongue-in-cheek. It was just nice to see it competitive.

Yep. I've beaten Camaro's and Mustangs, yes. But the 488 I ran against wrecked me and any 911 Turbo or such will crush it. Taycan is a really well built 4 door sporty electric car. It's real quick off the line and handles well for a 5000 pound car. Fast ICE cars will kill it.

On a short track that favors 0-60 cars for one lap? Yes of course. Will it win after 10 laps? No. People forget that sedans, let alone heavy electric sedans, are way too heavy to do multiple laps consistently on a real track day. The brakes, rotors and tires will fade in one day and you’ll either have to sit on the sidelines while the gt3’s can do 30+ laps without issue or you’ll pay $10,000+ every month on repairing the brakes, rotors and tires. This is an aspect that most people online don’t understand. When you’re actually tracking your car in the flesh, you don’t just run one lap… you do 10,15,20+ (Depending how long each lap is). On top of that, electric cars lose power very quickly as the battery charge goes down. Not that a taycan wouldn’t be fun to track, but long term THERES no way a taycan would be a better track car than a 911, especially since Porsche protects the 911’s from all other models from a track performance perspective.

+1 on this…

the Taycan can run “full pace” for about 15 minutes (2 ring laps) - and then battery thermals kick in and porsche software reduces throttle power to avoid overheated the battery - after than the vehicle needs a good 30 minute rest before battery temps are low enough to run again - also you will have used about 50% battery in that 15 minutes…so any track lacking fast charging infrastructure will make tracking the Taycan (or any EV) much harder.

not a track car is an understatement - but it’s fun for the those 3-5 laps and really really good for a big heavy sedan.

when I owned a Cup car one of my favorite races was PCA Club race “enduro’s“ 60-90 minute races with one mandatory 5 min pit stop - ROFL if you think a Taycan can do that or even come close - Cupcar did it like champ - full pace the entire time - truly awesome demontration of stamina and mechanical endurance.

my ideal scenario remains: drive Taycan/EV to track (best road car) - track 911 GT3 or equivalent (best track car) - drive Taycan/EV home from the track (best road car) - please don’t try and judge either vehicle against one another - they have different goals/purposes - one can excel where the other is weaker and vice versa - and yet both will have purpose and still be awesome. Trying to make everything do everything leads to compromised product and very very long development cycles. Different tools for different jobs.
