Does anyone know if this is also true in US? I have a ‘20 CPO Taycan Turbo w/~50K miles (CPO matches lease term expiration.) I was told by dealer that I must get a Porsche dealer inspection done to “buy” addt’l Porsche warranty coverage years. I’d love to lock in another 3 years warranty (on top of remaining CPO warranty) right now, and simply purchase the car outright (I obviously love the car but not enough to take risk of battery/expensive repair costs…
Dealer inspextion in Germany for 111point chk inly before cpo , not for extension when ongoing valid

So, no one had actual experience of an inspection and any pointers?

Just looking at this list do they genuinely expect you to have manuals/ maintenance booklets to get the extended warranty? I do have them so not an issue just surprised…

Tyre kit did catch my eye. Mines out of date. It was out of date when they last serviced it but I didn’t notice. Is this still a thing that if present and out of date it must be replaced and fail a mot? Mines been serviced and MoTd by Porsche with an out of date kit? Bit annoyed as should have been replaced when I wasn’t paying for servicing it and wasn’t! Do I just remove or need to replace?

So, inspection day tomorrow. Due to a charging port error that’s annoyingly come up they are saying they may need the car for 2-3 days but no loan car available…. Grrr….Charge port was repaired by porsche Colchester 5 months back so hoping will be covered by the them cost wise…

Probably over thinking it but have tried to get the car ready for inspection. A nearly brand new front tyre had a run in with a pothole so replaced this. It was only a small buldge in the sidewall but presume it would have failed inspection.

I’ve bought an in date tyre sealant. Don’t know if it would have failed if missing but after a quick google the tyre kit looks in excess of £100 pound so thought I’d buy one of eBay at a third of the cost. Can always resell after as have no desire to use it.

Only 2 or 3 concerns reading the inspection sheet. Rear tyres were given an amber at the service last month and says they need to be 3mm. Inner edges look to be just over 3mm, main tread 4mm plus on my basic tread depth measurement tool.

Front spoiler underside has had 5 years of running in low mode and looks a bit rough. The rear edge was a bit bent down but heated it up a bit and pushed it flat and now looks better, but worried they say it will need replacing. It doesn’t but we will see..

First aid kit, don’t think I’ve ever had one but this is listed as needing to be present…

Looking at the inspection sheet I’d of thought they’d send you a checklist of what to bring, they don’t, but I’ve sorted the manuals, original charger, V5, 2 keys ( added a brand new key ring to the spare!)

etc so all required stuff will be present. Checked Hi-vis, safety triangles are all present etc.

Also, gave it a good clean. Presume a clean car will get a better chance of passing the inspection 🧐

So, the results are in… the car failed the inspection on a couple of bits which are annoying …

Obviously the charging port fault failed. Randomly £750 being quoted pre parts to repair. Between a third party warranty I have and the fact they fixed the same port 4 months ago I’m hoping I won’t be stung on this.

2 new rear tyres are required but not for tread. Tread was quoted as 4mm but they said one has a nail/ metal pin and the other has a gauge/ hole in the tread that has brown discolouring around it which they state means the inner structure is compromised. Also, excessive inner wear mentioned. I pondered arguing/ repairing the tyre but have decided to get replaced but not at Porsche as can get tyres a bit discounted through work and will keep the tyres as spares if ok once checked.

So tyres are annoying but guess fair enough.

Final point, undertray hole, but not the front spoiler I was worried about, the front under tray behind it. Look to have a tiny hole and a small bit of damage but as it ‘protects important components’ needs replacing. Part Is £200 ish but fitted £576 (!), but think I’m just going to have to take this one.

Good news is nothing unexpected or serious. Charge port fault being looked at today. Awaiting an update tomorrow on repair/ collection and have provisionally booked tyres for Wednesday to be swopped all being well with charge port.

Sorry to hear you failed on these points. It appears in my experience that the inspection is conducted more vigilantly when instigated by a customer than when a dealer wants to certify for used approved.

Its also a pity the dealers aren't as diligent at assessing how many courtesy cars their customers will actually need, as they are at scrutinising customer tyres for minor irregularities.

So, warranty now active, £3540 pound later for a 3 year extended warranty applied. Did debate 1/2/3 year options, but 3 years felt the right option. Not fully read the small print but looks like if you make a claim you won’t get any money back should you terminate the agreement early ( if no claim Porsche will refund the pro rata unused months) but it is fully transferable if you sell privately ( which if I do sell the car it would go private given the mileage) and my thought process is if I did sell the car in a year, having a paid up 1/2/3 year warranty would more than recoup the initial outlay in the sale price.

So the process has been rather frustrating due to the charge port fault annoyingly coming up in my 3 month waiting period and it taking a week to fix, with no loan car! Anyone considering running one of these without a warranty is just madness, the charge port was a couple of sensors, parts less than £100 but bill £1200.

On the charge port they fixed it 5 months ago but saying a different component failure so not covered under the repair warranty! They are submitting a Porsche goodwill claim and seem to think I will have a good case given fully serviced since new by them and the previous fault. 5-7 days for a decision but I’ve had to pay the £1200 otherwise they would of had to keep the car until decision made…

Under tray, £600 later…

Tyres, hmm , not happy on this one, nothing wrong with the 2 rear tyres that have been replaced ( in my opinion and the MOT trained tyre fitter). Will post some pictures. They’ve halved the inspection price £380 or so to £190 after my complaint but are obviously still saying they have to be super diligent on tyres to pass the inspection..hmm..

Annoyingly my Porsche account now won’t log in as they’ve had it in privacy mode for so long, always have issues with LTE etc when they do this, but I guess at least I have the warranty in place now to fix it if it doesn’t wake up itself up !!

So, tyres. I was not going to pay the £780 Porsche wanted for 2 rear tyres. Through work I can get a 10% discount on an already cheaper price so Porsche Colchester agreed they’d jack the car up, give me the wheels, I’d take it a mile down the road and get them swopped, refit and warranty check done. Fitted tyres were £307 for Goodyear NF1 asymmetric 5, but after a 10% discount and a £20 voucher was £ 530 for the 2 rears fitted.

Fitters/ MOT trained guy said it was madness to swop them, 4mm plus tread on both. No issue that would fail an MOT or any cause for concern.

Both tyres had cuts to them, but don’t all tyres.

Tyre 1,

I suspect the tyres that came on mine (OPC) were worse than that! Good of them to have the car up on ramp whilst you do the wheels at least.

I hope you will keep the take offs for spares; you will likely need them given all the potholes around at the moment!

Tyre 2, again a cut in it but no structural damage, and in the video said the brown marks indicated structural damage but it was just mud … on a tyre, no structural damage…

I poked a screwdriver in the hole and clearly not gone through rubber to cause any concern.

Tyre fitter said unless you see metal cord you can’t say it’s structurally damaged.

Yes, agree. Did wonder if they wouldn’t let me take the wheels, or charge me for removal and re fitting which they didn’t. I took the tyres back for their inspection hence the half price inspection discount, and yes I will be keeping them as spares and will be refitted if required.

So, just to conclude my extended warranty inspection experience….

3.5k for 3 years extended warranty but IMO is a must and not actually that bad value for the warranty overall, although annoying it all needs paying upfront. Wife’s Range Rover you can do monthly .

Inspection was half price due to me complaining about tyre issue so £190 instead off £380.

2 rear tyres at £530 but keeping old rear tyres with 4mm tread and will be going back on at some stage.

£600 for a tiny hole in the under tray, check yours and replace if any damaged with oem parts and cheap local labour and don't let Porsche do it.

Failed charged port, argued for a long time due to the same port being fixed 5 months earlier. £1200 bill, ended up with Porsche goodwill of £800 or so, 3rd party warranty covered £230 so my actual bill was under £200 so could have been worse.

Not a great experience, so be prepared but my main take out is check under-trays!
